TV westerns

Just a couple of things Old Uncle. First, Clint Eastwood was not the star of Rawhide, not like James Arness was the star of Gunsmoke. Second, westerns did not spread like a disease. A disease is something bad, something people DON'T want---"Did you catch that new disease, AIDS?" "No, but I've heard so much about it, I can't wait until I get it!" Westerns were popular. It is better to say they spread like a meme (see Blackmoore's book).
The most astonishing thing about westerns, despite their overarching popularity on US TV in the 50's and 60's, I did not see even one BBC western on your list. Oh, they never produced a TV western? Shame on those damn Italians for loving the western so! I don't get it, you were happy to go bonkers over our rock n' roll, why not even one western? Is it too viscerally American? I guess so, because I cannot imagine ANY English actors faking American accents and yippy-ky-yaying it week to week across the small screen. Yeah, Michael Caine as the Yee-hah Kid doesn't quite cut it, does it? Thanks for even mentioning westerns, though.
