Just wondered if you were going to make the summer meet this year, and I've just realised that what with my year out and your BSc we'll be graduating at the same time smiley - evilgrin - and dealing with the true horror that is....

smiley - yikes

Foundation Year two c**k up

Ahh - the F1-3 cock-up... on chatting to my tutor about this, he says the NHS is endemic with cock ups such as this. What really worries me more than the fact that they know no more than the start date, is the prospect of being treated like a medical student for the next 3 years, complete with 'OSCE' style examinations...

Hell, they could have just extended the course by another 3 years smiley - erm

Just so long as the matching group I get in F1 is in London - then I can work my way slowly out of The Big Smoke... that's my plan anyhow.

As regards the summer meet - probably not - due to the BSc finishing late and the Final year starting early, I have about 3 weeks holiday - which the meet's in - and I think I'll be off to sunnier climes for that.

That said - the elective's organised smiley - biggrin

Ahh yes but at least we're been paid a healthy wage to be treated like a medical student.

I'm off on my elective in two weeks time smiley - wow, but only to Scotland - I'm doing a Tesco Value elective.

I really don't envy you with the horror that is London Matching scheme's they're all so much more competative than up here - and we get free accomodation - which will be helpful to deal whilst I save up for a place of my own.

If you're considering moving out of the big smoke the West Midlands matching scheme will be undersubscribed again this year.

Oh and the guy responsible for the F2 horror is the chair of it and works as a GP up here, so you get to abuse him in person..

True - oh to be paid something at the least...

You're taking your elective rather early - I'm off to Aus which is lucky as I organised it rather late smiley - erm

Well - as regards HO jobs etc, a friend of mine has said I'd be 'ideal' for working under someone at the Cross, owing to the fact that I like wine, and I have boobs smiley - laugh

I've sold my soul to neurology anyhow - so a house job *anywhere* will be fine - the Deanery has told us that the London schemes are competetive, but as I've discovered, a few 'sneaky' measures can get you places...

I've chosen my in/out placements for the final year though - that was scary...

Yeah we do our electives at the start of 5th year, which is fairly early.

Good luck with the neurology, I'm just revising it now. I'm rather glad our house jobs are very relaxed affair, well getting them is. That said they are house jobs in the West Midlands, which owuld explain why.

All my friends from uni are off to Oz, but it a dramatic fit of adulthood, I decided to not get into any more debt so I can buy house when I graduate.

Ah - neurology was last year - the BSc's neuroscience, which is a completely different beast...

Neuro's what I want to specialise in, hopefully... Everyone thinks I'm mad, but hey, someone's got to do it smiley - smiley

I'm off late September - it's something I've set my heart on from the very beginning of the course, so I thought I'd carry it out smiley - smiley

Well it's good to have an intrest I'm fascinated by HIV and STDs which most people think is mad. That just makes it easier to get a job - hopefully .

Whats sickening about the f2 is that the year out wasn't my choice, and was forced on me, so I could have escaped it all.

Enjoy OZ - it's not that much later than our elective... where are you going?

ID/GUM is very important - I have the utmost respect for guys who go into that - my personal tutor's in that - and he's a throroughly nice guy...

I don't really mind the year out - a lot of people didn't want to stray too far from London (gah - honestly, there is a world, a much better and nicer world outside of the M25...), but wouldn't mind being put out, say in West Cornwall - I had a 'mini-elective' in paediatrics there, and when you are 10 mins from the beach, it makes a lot of diffence smiley - smiley

I also got sunburnt there for the first time in a long time there too smiley - erm

Sydney - but hopefully I can have a word with my guy and say 'but I want to see your beautiful country too smiley - smiley '

Oooh is that on your matching scheme. Stratford and Shrewsbury are out 'far our' hospitals on the matching scheme and they're still close enough to keep in touch with people who are on other area's of the matching scheme.

I'm not raelly looking forward to going away for six weeks now, I'll miss my flatmates graduation, and gliding for six weeks. Oh and I'm doing general practice, which I've sort of lost intrest in since I organised my elective.

Cornwall is - as is apparently, the home counties (understandably)... Hopefully Devon and such like will be up for grabs - they'll let us know in another meeting later this month - they'll tell us what little they know smiley - smiley

I'm doing Endo for my elective - which is something I'm vaguely interetsed in - so it's more of a mystery to me smiley - smiley

At least you're being told what's happening which is more than we are! I suppose Southampton is that way as well! Endo sounds fun too, but I really don't understand it..

Ohh and that's on my patholgyexam in just over a week

Heh - I remember path - two weeks of lectures, one week to revise it, then the exam straight after smiley - erm

I spent most of it in a friends back garden 'swimming pool' - or a huge 12 foot paddling pool - it was a very nice summer smiley - smiley

Ah - for beer, barbeque and a pool...
