h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

A successful day today.
I started this morning with some tests to run on some changes I had made.
Following the instructions I had been given which basically consisted of 'Press button, wait for beep, check output' I merrily set of on what I thought to be a short task.

I pressed the button.
I waited.
No beep.
I waited a bit more.
No beep.

My manager came over. He watched as I pressed the button again.
No beep.
*he* pressed the button.
No beep.

The senior techy who looks after that functionality overheard us and pressed the button.
No beep.

Manager and senior techy huddled round one of their computers and have been there ever since, randomly emitting swear words and jargon.

I am so pleased that, with little more effort than just pressing a button, I have provided gainful employement for two experienced staff members for a full day. I suspect it may carry on till tomorrow.

It is always good to leave work with a warm satisfied feeling of having done something worthwhile.
Which is just as well cos I've been sat here all day twiddling me thumbs on the web waiting for them to fix it

I love days like that! I hope it continues into today. Gainful employment's even more meaningful these days.

Did you use the lycos address? Cos that one is defunct now (lycos shut their email down last year or so).
