Thank you for wanting to contribute to the Earth Edition of The Guide. It has been very sad for those of who have been a part of this site since it was set up by DNA only two years ago. It is quite a comfort to know that after his death, others are wanting to join in and help contribute.
Well so anyway...Hello and welcome!
I am one of the ACES, that stands for Assistant Community Editor. We are researchers just like yourself, drawn from the community to help out. We are the official meeters and greeters of this site and I thought I would stop by and say Howdy.
"Howdy."
To help you orientate yourself aound the site, here are some useful links: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Smiley for a list of smilie codes that can be used in conversation forums like this one...
One of the most popular conversation forums is http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/askh2g2 - here you can post a question and engage
with the rest of the community.
The forums form one half of the site, they are were reseacrher meet and chat. Forums stem from particular Guide Entries writtten by researchers and they can be about anything at all. The site supports two methods of writing. You can use either plain text
or if you want to make a page look special you can use a specialised code system called GuideML. It is terribly simple to use (I've never even touched compouter code and I can use GuideML, so you can too! ) A really helpful place to start then is the GuideML Clinic, which can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/GuideML-Clinic It explains the basic structure of GuideML, how to use it and is the best place to go, if you need any help or get stuck using it. You personal Space counts as a guide entry and can also be created using GuideML.
If you are stuck for anything else you could try first checking the Don't Panic! Help Pages: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/dontpanic or if you fancy it come and talk to the rest of the ACES here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/ACES - we are a friendly
bunch.
If you want to reply to this message you can by clicking on the reply button in the corner, I will know if you do because my page dispalys a record of all conversations I have taken part in and have replies to. If you want to stop by my page as well, you are
more than welcome. I am here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U113478
Enjoy, reading, taking part in and contributing to The Guide.
See you around.

I forgot to add.
"Welcome to the Guide! Codpiece Man,"
I swear, I'd forget my head sometimes if it wasn't welded to my collarbone.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
