Hellebores
Danny B Started conversation Oct 31, 2001
Hi Wilfred,
I'm just editing your Hellebore entry and I wondered if you could clarify something for me. In the sentence:
The genus does not include the pokeweeds: American, false or white hellebore (Veratrum spp.); and the winter hellebore, Eranthis hyemalis.
Are all four hellebores mentioned (American, false, white and winter) classed as pokeweeds, or just the first three?
Thanks
Danny B.

Just the first three are pokeweeds, Danny. In fact it's only two because 'false' and 'white' are the same species, I understand.
(I must admit that I learnt my punctuation when Latin was still compulsory)

Latin? Never heard of it
Thanks for clearing that up - the entry is at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A649208 if you want to have a look before I send it back to the editors. I'll leave it there for a few days.
