The term 'Jap' used in reference to the i nhabitants of Selkirk stems from the towns once flourishing electronics industry. But since both MEPD and Exacta are now no more the name has no relevance. However the japs hate it so let's keep using it.
And i know why Gala folk are called pailmerks.
I'm also sure it was Hawick folk that were called souters not selkirk. selkirk folk being known as craws, stemming from craws nest (selkirk being on the top of a hill).
