Arpeggio - Keeper, Muse, Against Sequiturs, à propos of nothing in particular Started conversation Jun 23, 2001
Well, never mind. I'm soliciting attention to an article in Peer Review, by a 1 week newbie, called something like 'Theatre Set Designers and Their Pizza'.
I think the article and he both have huge potential. He's not a teenager, he knows his subject, he's obviously informed. I don't know whether this would be Edited Guide material, though. He wants to sacrifice facts for the sake of humour, and does it very well, but he needs to know (and hear from several people) what should be changed.
You are one of the most incisive critics here. You are simply good at that. It would do him good to have some science nerds read his article too (I stage commando raids on articles written in computerese, that are intended for the lay person), but you are such a good, constructive critic, I'm sure you'd have a lot to offer.
He's 7rob7, and if he can keep writing like that (with improvements, but that is a fine start) he'll be a real keeper here!
Thanks. Also thank you for the criticisms on my articles. I hope you keep doing it, because I learn a lot from your suggestions... and I thought I wasn't too bad a writer.
Take care, and... why are you online at such goshawful times? I thought you must be in North America.

Hi, Arpeggio (or Marilyn)!
I had a look at that theatre article in Peer Review earlier, but it's the kind of entry that I find hardest to review because I really have to think about it. Since it's late here, I'm feeling quite dozy and not up to that kind of serious reasoned comment. Maybe tomorrow?
Thanks for the kind words about my ability as a critic - I'm still finding my way around things here, but I try to be as constructive as I can. As for the odd hours - my internet/phone arrangements at the moment mean that my calls in off-peak hours are free, so I got into the habit of logging on fairly late at night. That's one way it's clear that so many of the UK researchers are young - they all seem to be online during office hours, suggesting that they're using school/college/office computers.
See you around!
