DNA, rest in peace :(
Posted May 12, 2001
I can't believe Douglas Adams is no longer with us. someone ICQ-ed me the link to the news article, and I was totally flabbergasted. I've always been a massive fan of the man and his work, and I've been looking at his work some more recently, leading me to sign up for H2G2.
In fact, just recently I bought a Commodore 64 which came, inexplicably, with a pristine C128 version of "Bureaucracy", Douglas' second text-adventure for Infocom. I can't play it, but I guess I'll track down a web-based version to check it out sometime. I've no doubt, that, like everything else he did, it reeks of genius.
I really miss you, DNA, even tho I never had a chance to meet you. At least you had the chance to inspire, inspire me, inspire thousands, even millions. Thank you. Your legacy will live on.

does the UK get the MTV show "Jackass" on cable nowadays? It's showing here in the US, and they just ran a 'very serious' interview with the star, Johnny Knoxville, before it started, since there's been copycat incidents, including kids setting themselves on fire and being hit by cars.
and here's Johnny, trying to convince people that everything is 'professionally researched' and they have oodles of safety directors. HAH. they just go out and film stuff, and i think their putative 'safety director' is a very hippie-looking crazy guy who appears on Animal Planet swimming with sharks. i mean, come _on_, they had 'bobbing for jellyfish' last week, and that got past somebody.
but the show is pretty funny. so i guess we can let it pass. but kids, stop setting yourselves on fire, ok?
