Travel for peace

Well, I'll be gone for a week starting tomorrow, as I'll be on a "white bus" travelling through Germany and Poland, observing the gruesome remains after the nazis... I've heard it can be pretty horrific, and people tend to get very emotional after they've been there, so it's highly likely I'll write a journal entry here after I come back next Sunday.

So goodbye and toodles smiley - peacesign

Peace. Please...

Okay, I don't care much for politics, goverment or presidential status...

I only know that war equals misery, death, mangled bodies and lost sons, fathers, mothers, friends - completely innocent individuals who've probably suffered enough already... Basically, as I see it, because of only two powerhungry men smiley - blue

Carpe Diem

If Death was given a voice
That voice would scream through the sky:
"Live while you may, for I am coming!"
So hand me the wine and the dice
I want my carnival now
While I have thirst and lust for living

The time is racing away
Why live your life in tiny measures?

BAND LOG 002

Dear Lord, I can't believe how long we've gone without a gig! smiley - huh It's because I started this log, I know it...

Well, yesterday was the big local (well, not local to me, since I've moved away) culture competition. Drownin' Ducks were to compete, but three days before we aknowledged we didn't have enough time to finish the song we were planning to sing, 'Permission Impossible', so we decided at a version of 'Son of a Preacherman' instead. The problem was the ending, which we had to rewrite at the last moment, and didn't have enough time to rehearse.

I'll tell you some things about this competition: Once a year, every county have one of these local competitions, and about one third of the competers get to the next round, which is with several counties, and in the end, if you've won every round, you get some fabulous prize. Last year, when Drownin' Ducks competed, we won the first round without as much as the bat of an eyelid. That wasn't very good, since we assumed it would be this easy this time again.

We met up some time before 9 AM for the sound rehearsals which was delayed, as the custom is. We gave the soundmen the usual tips, like put up the volume at this part, inforce the drums at that part, etc. We should have made them write it down, since we later found out they hadn't cared about a jiffy of it.

The competition wouldn't air for many hours, so to make the time pass we ate dinner and checked out the other competitors. There were dancing, singing, paintings, and surprisingly many bands. Not just that, but annoyingly good and hardworking bands. There was Raggsokk (everybody expected them to win), Background Psycho (another band belonging to our "manager" Daniel), Replay (they're all incredibly talented, and they're nearly not older than 10 years old!), and one of the greatest live band perfomances I've seen, Ebony&Ivory. I got embarassingly attracted to the guitar player, but the little hope I had I put aside when I walked in on him and the vocalist at some steamy kissing in the wardrobe. "Stars' relationships, they never work out", as they say smiley - bigeyes

When Drownin' Ducks finally got to play it had long ago gotten dark outside, and all of us were a bit tired and annoyed (plus the soundmen really mucked it up) so as you can guess, the judges didn't give us a high ranking. But they encouraged us to play next year, when we can get a couple of our own songs finished. We've started writing allready.

So the final scores were given - most were surprised Raggsokk didn't win (a final proof you can never be totally sure of judges), Replay, that amazingly talented bunch of kids was elected as winner, and finally Ebony&Ivory was the audience's favourites and not only won, but got a juicy check for continuing their cultural uplift. I'm really hoping they'll make it big.

So, crawling back to the shadows licking our wounds, we have decided to get quickly up into the saddle again and take what we've learned of the experience with us. That's quite the loser's clichè thing to say, isn't it? smiley - winkeye
