Hello, welcome to h2g2! I was just having a snoop at who's online and thought I'd pop in and offer you a smiley - stiffdrink
I am also a songwriter, but just a baby one! The band I'm in has just got going again after a slight hiatus, in fact this weekend I've been busily booking gigs for no pay, (as usual), so I'm getting nervous already and hence can talk about little else. Sorry.
Anyway, hope you have fun on h2g2, there are some great people in this community who are definitely worth getting to know, and although I agree that it can be very slow waiting for people to get back to you, I think most folks benefit from having time to think about what they're writing! smiley - winkeye
happyhiking!

Thanks for the welcome and the drink.

If your doing gigs for no money your in it for the right reasons. And nervousness goes as soon as the music starts. Hope it goes well for you.

And there's no way your as stupid as me. *S*

Wow I've just visited your page. You're right, 22 is very, very old.

In 1974 when I 16, I formed a band which was called Long Shore Drift. Glad to see the geographic terminology is still being used as band names.

Ah, you're about the same age as our bass player.... so you might know where he got the name from..?? Apparently Shore Island is where Batman originally came from (I'm assuming the comic version) but he could have just made it up. Deciding on a band name is the cause of most band break-ups, you know. But we're not sure it matters all that much if the music can speak for itself. And playing original music will never ever make you any money unless you're very lucky! The day I don't get nervous is the day I quit (although it would be nice to stop actually being physically sick, as I was on one memorable day in Soho).

I've found myself being sick in Soho a few times. Must be the air.

Be nervous. Be sick, but as soon as you start singing, be special, be unique, be mesmorising. Luck is for the average person who's in the right place at the right time. Special people catch ears and eyes. Punters talk about them the next day, and come again with friends. Exponential growth. Grow a following and they'll bring any luck you need with them.

Is that enough platitudes for you.

That's how stupid I am. It's took me 26 years to believe what I've just written is as true as a daffodil is yellow.

That's wonderful, it really is! I can honestly say that I will never ever forget what I've just read... It's along the same lines as what my mum told me when I first sang for an audience. She said "To be special, you need to really believe that you ARE special. And you are". I love my mum, she's one of the few people I know who still believes I can do anything if I put my mind to it.
May I use what you just wrote in a song? (cheekystupidgirl, always on the look out for ideas for lyrics) smiley - smiley

Now it's all starting to make sense. This is where I got the wrong idea about how old 'stoop' was. djs posted twice (#3) and said HE was in a band in 1974. I thought it was 'stoop' talking and accused her of either being as old as djs or... oh never mind.
I'm just glad I finally figured out where I got the wrong impression and how. I should now go to my old chat with 'stoop' and apologise. Naw, she's too young for me anyhow. Probably forgotten all about it...

*Note to self-always look at heading to see who is speaking, never assume the next posting is a reply by the other posting. I would write that out 100 times as punishment but that would get really boring.*

Just came by to say smiley - ok to djs for several of his recent profound and oblique and witty postings in many threads. Perhaps it's uncool these days to offer positive feedback but I like what you're doing, especially when the going gets heavy. As it did in 90% of Brian's 10%. Thanks for reminding me to lighten up.
peace

For a second there I thought stupidgirl had returned, but it was only you.

I've got to say thanks to you, for entertaining and enlightening me, for the past few weeks. Sometimes I pop in just to see jwf's latest pronouncement.

Thanks for the feedback. Uncool or not.

Yours peacefully djs
