I'm from my beloved Yorkshire, a county that's proud to be the largest in England smiley - .

I was born there, making me a true Yorkshireman, known as a "Tyke".

However, I've spent the last 3 years living in Preston, Lancashire, while studying for my degree in Forensic Science (BSc Hons), at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) which I'm pleased to say I have smiley - .

Any hobbies & interests?

Well, yeah, I suppose.

Banding

Musicians Guild

I play an Eb tuba, with a few bands, a couple of which I'm going with to different parts of Europe later this year. The most well-known of these is probably The Yorkshire Volunteers Band2, but I also play with Phoenix Brass Band (careful if you run a search for this, as there are many Phoenix bands out there - besides, I'm not sure the one I'm talking about has a website), and the local music centre, for kids that have per... peri... perip... lessons in school. Here, I play in the Senior Windband and Senior Orchestra. I occasionally find myself back at my old high school to help out with Christmas and Summer concerts. Check out my dedication! (Or am I just sad?)

If you'd like to see some pictures of me 'banding', then you can go to My Personal Webspace. I hope to host some picures here, soon!

I've also joined the h2g2 Musician's Guild (or click the badge for further info).

Beer

Trappist beer is traditionally brewed by Monks

I'm a member of Campaign for Real Ale, (CAMRA) even though I don't agree with all of their ideals (but that's a story for another day). Yes, beer can be classed as a hobby; hooray! I consider myself fortunate to have worked in two "real ale" pubs in my life so far. The first of these is part of a small-ish (but probably bigger than I think) brewery, and the second is a, 'privately owned'3 pub. Both of these have 8 hand pumps, meaning they both get a fantastic range of real ale. Perhaps if I get time, I'll list some of my favourites.

Games

A Tetris graphic

I like games. All sorts of games! Whether they're board games, computer games, card games, pub games, puzzle games, physical games or any other sort of game you can think of, the chances are, I'll be willing to play it at least once.

A game of chess

At the moment, as I'm spending a lot of time on my own (not through choice, you understand), I seem to be playing a lot of computer games. I currently own two gaming machines (I don't use my PC for games that much - it's not particularly powerful), but I shall avoid mentioning their specific types, in case it's classes as advertising. Later, when I've drunk some beer (see above), I might become a bit more bolder (see what I did there?!), and tell you.

As for board games...(to be continued)

Here's a puzzle for you to have a go at solving.

Aim: Connect each utility to each house.
Rules: You may draw lines of any length or shape (ignore the outer box). You may not cross lines or go through another house or utility.

Why are you here?

A compass

Heh, that's a very good question. I used to have an account here, but for some reason, when h2g2 became integrated with the BBC site, and I had to move my account over, I became 'locked' out. Anyway, under this old account, I had some good fun, and made some good friends, but some events happened, for whatever reasons and I gradually stopped spending time here.

Eventually, I found my way back and, on realising the problems with my old account, signed up for a new one; this one. Sadly however, things don't seem to be the way I remember them. Starting over isn't as easy as it sounds. I've tried many times to re-integrate myself into the community, but I never seem to hang around for very long. As a result, I come here from time to time, update my space, make a few posts, and make another attempt, always promising myself I'll stick at it. I think I'm going to need some new friends though; any takers? Or can someone at least point me in the right direction?

I've made a few entries to the Guide (at the lowest level) - these are things I've had to write mainly for myself (A-level/degree research), so they're here more so that I know where to find a copy should I need to, but feel free to have a peek. I'm contemplating adding my dissertation, but without the images contained in it, it might be a bit odd; any thoughts either way?

Misc.

Er... I like this picture smiley - .

Auroras

These links to smilies and pictures are here more for my benefit (there are so many to use now!), but feel free to have a look yourself; It's not like I could stop you, even if I wanted to!

I thought I'd best list the book(s) I've used for info:
