¡Hola! Me llamo...
Posted Apr 6, 2001
Today was my first day as an assistant ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher at a housing project near my apartment. The students are primarily Russian women a little older than my mother. I sat in on the "Advanced" class, made up of students who have been studying for a few months now. It's amazing how much English they have for starting from scratch. I mean, I took four years of Spanish in high school and can barely get past "¿Comó estás?" conversationally. We had a detailed conversation about my program at university, and I have no Russian whatsoever. It says a lot for the value of immersion learning. Now I really can't wait to go to Beijing!

Everybody Rocks

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with everyone here. I've only been here a few hours and four people have said nice things to me/left feedback. I feel so validated.
