If you want to change you name so it says something other than Researcher 171192, then you need to find (and click on) the Preferences button and change your name. It also helps if afterwards you press the 'Update Details' button...

I'm an ACE, which basically means I've volunteered for the 'official' job of meeting and greeting newcomers to the guide - a 'welcome mat' as someone said. I think they were being sarcastic when they did say it, but it's a fair description I guess. Except that not all of us are flat and hairy...

You may like to note that there are other wonko-the-sanes about and perhaps, before you get too dug in here, you might like to change the name slightly. Sorry. For a complete check, use the Search function -at the bottom of the Advanced Search page there is a "Search for a friend" bar - you can check that. You will find that lots of names are duplicated.

Otherwise, let me welcome you. No doubt an ACE will be round soon to give you an official welcome. I am not sure there are many Researchers from Asia. How did you get to hear about H2G2?

No, there's no ruling on this AFAIK, but it would seem a good idea to find a more unique handle before getting going.

Oh, OK. Fair enough. I didn't think they'd started insisting on totally individual names...
