Sam
Passionate debate = Good.
This: "atheist demon-possessed moron" = Bad.
Grow-up or you will find someone putting you on moderation.
I happen to agree that those Police Officers had the most terrible decision to make. Having shot with the Met I know that his will live with them for the rest of their lives. It was not murder, it was preventative action.
Blessings,

"ALL criminal justice systems should immediately instigate the death penalty for murder. I would also add attempted murder to that list, and treason too."
But if most people who live in a country are not followers of a religion, why should they permit it to determine its laws? Especially an extreme version of that religion which is not espoused by most of its adherents.

"It's a good job you're never going to be elected to public office. Having said which, given John 8:7, who do you suggest act as executioner?"
Sam might have a chance if he's willing to move to Northern Ireland. Orangemen appreciate fundamentalism in their politcians.

"How DARE you accuse those police officers of murder!!!!!!!!!!!"
I presume from this that the moderated post was about the recent killing of a Brazilian man by the police, who suspected him of being a terrorist.
I am still waiting to hear what the so-called "shoot to kill" instructions to units such as SO19 comprise, especially with regard to what to do once your man is pinned to the ground and so cannot move to set off a bomb.
I can well understand why it makes sense to shoot potential bombers in the head if they are being pursued and could set off a bomb at any time, thus endangering the people around them, but I am currently puzzled as to what the reasoning is once the suspect is incapicitated. I hope there is some sort of argument which makes sense, or, if not, that the police will be charged with murder and have to answer for their actions in court, as anyone else, including soldiers.
There is the case which occurred in recent years of a soldier in Northern Ireland who was on sentry duty and, quite properly, fired (IIRC) three shots at a car coming towards him which did not respond to his demands it stop and identify itself. Unfortunately for the young soldier, he also fired once at the car's occupants after they had passed him, which was exceeding his duty. He ended up in court and was given life imprisonment, though that was later reduced to 4 years' for wounding, as the judge felt the testimony of a police witness was unreliable. having said that, the judge condemned the distasteful triumphal celebration of the soldiers in Clegg's unit about the shooting at the time it took place.
The story can be found e.g. on these sites:

Ya see, in every jurisdiction that has abolished the death penalty, there have been people convicted as guilty 'beyond a reasonable doubt' of committing a crime which had at one time been a capital offense. Those individuals have sat in jail for years -- decades in some cases -- to in the end be exonerated beyond ALL doubt of the crime for which they had been convicted. All court systems, like all people, are fallible. I am pleased that the legislators and the people of my country recognise that fact.
Nineteen year old gods do the work of the devil and call themselves born-again (and haven't yet been born once [riddle my riddle if you have a prayer).

Dea.. - call me Mrs B! Posted Jul 29, 2005
D'you know folks, I'm starting to have a few suspicions about our mate GrandSlamDunk!
I happened to speak to a friend last night who is reading Social Anthropology at university. She was telling me about her summer project for the course in which she had to study various peoples reactions to fantastic and unbelievable statements.
For someone who is studying Social Anthropology and International Relations at uni, and has ambitions in the Diplomatic Service(????) and politics, i'm beginning to think that our Sam in his present form has not got a snowball's chance in hell of fulfilling his career ambitions. I'm just imagining him as a diplomat having to deal with foreign dignitaries. "Good Evening Mr Ambassador from [insert relevant Islamic, Catholic, Shinto etc, etc, country] Did you know that you are the Spawn of Satan and are doomed to eternal torment in the Lake of Fire?
S'not gonna further International Relations, is it? And no indigenous person is gonna take him seriously and answer any questions on how their upbringing and family history is affecting their life today whilst he's prattling on about how his God is better than their God.
So Sam, either you are a damned good liar and dissembler embarking on a bizarre project to gauge our reactions to an apparent fundamentalist fanatic, or if I were you, I'd be making a quick phone call to the University Careers Counsellor and asking to change my course.

I have managed to use "hornswaggled" on no less than 5 occasions today!! Which is not bad considering that everyone else in the office only speak Portuguese!!!

If this were a new development, I might be inclined to agree with you - however, Sam has been polluting the Science and Religion meassageboards for quite some time now. Admittedly, he had drifeted further and further from reality and into his derranged imagination in recent weeks, but he is essentially the same old SixDaySpam.
