Your entry has been reassigned, to King Bomba
The smiley was made by Clelba, who has been Elvised quite a few years, so I'd say, quite a few years at least

And speaking of smileys- isn't it about time for the fall 2009 list to be revealed?

As to disappearances, I wonder why nobody ever says they saw someone Hoffad. I am quite sure this was the same time period as Elvis
(1975) when The labor leader went to a restaurant in suburban Detroit,MI and was never seen again.

I am also champing at the bit awaiting a certain smiley.
Methinks the Editors tease us.
As for Hoffad, I am clueless of what you speak. Was the owner of the restaurant you mention a Conservative? Or the a cannibal? Or did Sweeney Todd share a nearby table and offer him a free shave?

A little history- Jimmy Hoffa was head of th teamsters union and connected to the mafia.
He was under inditement by the federal government and agreed to let someone else run the labor union.
He went to a private meeting at the restaurant and the4 theory is the place was mob owned.
One theory is the body was put in the restaurant's trash compactor.
The FBI spent tons of money digging up a certain ranch where they thought he was buried andfound nothing.
To this day nobody knows where Jimmy Hoffa ended up.

There was an article written in September 1999
talking about unfinished business of the twentieth century (A171839)
The last paragraph contains the words
What are the things we really owe it to ourselves to sort out in the next few months, before the digits roll over and we all have a set of brand new shiny 21st century problems to deal with? World hunger? Lord Lucan? Jimmy Hoffa? Where to put old eight-track tapes so that no-one in the 21st century will ever have to see one ever again?
Apparently sorting out the whereabouts of Hoffa has been deemed unimportant in light of more pressing matters.

I believe I have also heard references, in "Ghost" Sam (Patrick Swayze) makes a joke about finding Jimmy Hoffa, and also there is mention in "Bruce Almighty" - Jimmy Hoffa's body gets dug up just as he's (Jim Carrey) there with his camera

I seem to remember those as well. But as I said a few posts back
nobody made a verb out of his name like they did with Elvis.

Well Elvis is known the world over. I think only the Americans know Hoffa.

Having grown up in a state dominated by the Auto Workers union
I tends to forget that sometimes.
Do automobile plants in the UK use organized labor?
feigns ignorance.
