Hi Raver and Welcome To the ACEs
Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Started conversation Apr 18, 2001
Hello,
Just thought I'd pop over for a few words of advise. I just popped past a newbies page to find that you'd beaten me to the welcome by a few minutes.
There was a long conversation in the ACE's e-group a while back concerning the best method of welcoming new researchers. While we all thought we were doing them a big favour by letting them know all the good places to go etc and including all that in the welcome message, it always tended to be a little impersonal. After a great ammount of debate, it was generally accepted that a shorter more personal approach be taken.
Please don't get upset, I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm. I personally find it most disheartening going out and greeting a host of newbies, never to hear from any of them ever again. The reason that it happened to me was that I intimidated them with a monster welcome message. Lots of the other ACEs would agree.
If you try something a little shorter with the suggestion of using the reply button if they get stuck, you might find that you end up being of greater help.
Keep up the fantastic work, don't be afraid to tell me where to get off if you're happy doing what you're doing, hope to chat later.....

You are probably right.
I do tend to talk too much.
It took ages trying to work out the best way to handle a welcome message, so I thought what would I have liked when I first came here.
There are so many wonderful places to go in h2g2 and it took me ages to find them (i am still looking). So I reckoned a few pointers would help a newcomer.
But you are right perhaps it was a bit impersonal.
i'll have a rethink.
Perhaps a few pointers to new aces on the e-group page would help
Thanks anyway
By the way how do you get those drop down menues on your page?
see you

I'm so glad that I didn't offend you
Have the code for a drop down menu to be going on with, you can see how it goes, so you can add more bits 'n' pieces as you see fit, or take stuff out. Do you want the ACEs drop down as well?

You'll notice the code for volunteer lists button on that menu, I've just installed the "Vegiman Special" on my page, if you want I can give you the code for that!!
