Linus...42, i guess that makes me the answer... Started conversation Mar 23, 2001
Do not be afraid !!! I am one of the ACES (Assistant Community Editors) whose job it is to meet and greet newcomers, and hopefully point them in the right direction...which, it must be said, is highly unlikely until i figure out where that is myself
If you have any questions ask away, you never know, i might just know the answer
So are you a Marvin fan, a Radiohead fan or both?
Cheers, Linus
Salutations, Uncle Linus!

Yea, verily, I am a Marvin fan. More accurately, my friends have in the past identified me with Marvin, and the correlation sort of stuck. I used to hold periodic readings from the Guide in my college dorm room, and evidently my friends found my rendition of Marvin's voice highly amusing. When the time came to choose a handle, the decision wasn't hard!
I'm quite pleased to be a new addition to the h2g2 community, and I look forward to meeting people, maybe even submitting the odd article or two... I do have one nagging technical question though. When I'm typing my posts, the text box in which I type them is significantly wider than my computer screen, which causes me to have to scroll side to side in order to see the ends of my sentences. Is there something I can do to correct this? Also, is there a way to run potential article ideas by people to see if the topics would be of interest?
So... aside from reading h2g2 articles, what's fun to do on this site? Any recommendations? :D
Cheers,
Paranoidandroid

Sorry for the delay. I didn't log in over the weekend.
Your technical query sounds like a job for the Gurus - who are the h2g2 tech experts...
As for articles, believe me everything is of interest. You might want to have a look at the Peer review system to see some of the entries currently in progress, or just click on one of the life, the universe, everything buttons in the aqua? coloured part at the top of the page.
If you can hang on a sec, i will find those addresses for you...
As far as other things to do...well there are a large number of pubs, cafes, societies, clubs and forums going on.
Any particular interests?
I can probably help you find a good virtual if thats any help...

Actually, i've asked DD to pop in here when he gets a chance, so you can ignore that bit...although you can still feel free to visit him anyway, if you wish

Sorry for the delay but I'm busy packing to move in two weeks time.
Ok Technical Query.
You say that when you are writing your posts that the text box is signifigantly wider than your screem. Hmm. I have never come across this before. May I ask what Browser you are using. And also do you seem to have this problem reading or writing to other sites. I'll see if anyone else has heard of this happening before.
Of browsers and suchlike
Paranoidandroid Posted Mar 27, 2001
No problem about the delay, I checked back on this site for the first time in a couple of days approximately half an hour after you posted your note. The browser I am using is Netscape Communicator, and alas, I'm using a Mac. It's not my fault, it's all they'd give me at work. I should try this at home and see if I have the same problem on my PC laptop. Congrats on being engaged -- I was engaged for a while once, and it was nice while it lasted.
I suspect that the settings on my browser are slightly skewed, but I've poked around as much as I dare and I haven't turned up a setting that looks like it would affect my situation. All this scrolling back and forth is getting old... Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go....
