I'm not sure if I'm responding to a post that I read as I'm all a bit confused about this site. However, I read an article on food and balance and think it a good article however, I would add one thing. The food pyramid has changed now and instead of bread, grains and pasta on the bottom of the pyramid, it is being suggested that the bottom of the pyramid should be fruit, vegetables and whatever else it was!
Happy balancing.

Hey, thank you for being so helpful.
Now, is it totally uncool to post a 'relationship wanted' sort of message on this site? If not, where would be the best place to post it?

Laura Posted Jul 12, 2005
No, it's not uncool, it's not intended as a dating website but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Although I wasn't inteding to, I afterall meet my boyfriend through this site and we've been together about a year now

You met your boyfriend on this site - how cool is that especially as you've been together a year now. I saw the penis site Might have a look at the other - haven't clicked on it yet. While it may not be intended as a dating site - it really is intended as an anything site isn't it?
Also, I posted a request for some info on Barcelona but I think I put it in the wrong place. Is Misc Chat the place it should go to?
Thanks so much for your help.

I am certainly pleased how things worked out , we actually met at one of the meet-ups that occur every now and then. Next one Saturday
. Yes, it is an everything site, I only said about some people not taking well to direct asking as there was an incident about a year ago involving one researcher harassing several female researchers for personal details.
It's not against the house rules, so if you want to do that then go ahead
, just be warned that some people may be a bit warry due to past incidents
Asking about things (as long as it's not trivia like 'where are you going in the next five minutes?') is best on <./>askh2g2</.>.
No problem

What, an actual physical meet up? Where do these happen? In London? Sounds cool. Anyway, I'm enjoying the site a lot but there is so much and I'm not sure I understand it all! I guess an entry is kind of like an essay on something you want to say whereas a conversation is where you want other people to respond?

All over the world (though more often in Britain as there's more of us here). Saturday's meet is in London and there's two main meets there a year, one in the summer and one in the winter .
Yes, there's lots of different forums aimed and attracting different conversations . There are also lots of clubs and societies. Plus there are journal entries, aimed and informing your friends what you're up to
.
Entries are different, and there are different types of them as well. The main point of the site is the Edited Guide - the aim of that is to form a guide to Life, the Universe and Everything, founded by Douglas Adams (U42) in 1999. There are also fictional entries
I'd say more but it's time for dinner

I found your 'looking for a lover' thread
I can confirm that what was said about 2legs is true though, don't be fooled by his spelling, he does have several degrees, likes to cook and does the housework (you just have to see the n i g h t h o o v e r cult for that , which is also proof of his sense of humour I guess
)

night hoover cult? Okay I'm thoroughly lost now. This is starting to sound like a cult Obviously all you guys and gals know each other well and for a long time!!!

Laura Posted Jul 13, 2005
No, not really, I've met 2legs and some of the others at meets but there are plenty of people here I don't know - with several thousand researchers there's no way to know them all .
Nighthoover was started when one poor new researcher (called nighthoover in case you hadn't guessed) joined accidently and asked if it was possible to council his account. He duly left, but the conversation has continued ever since, waiting for the time of nighthoover's second coming.. I'm afraid h2g2 researchers can be a bit daft at times

So, everyone on the site's a 'researcher'? I have read Hitchhiker but it has been a while...
I'm certainly in the daft category - trying to make sense of this site and enjoying it in the interim!!! How did you find my post - does it appear on a list somewhere?
Are you an official helper? How long have you been on? So many questions - I hope this is ok!
Food and Balance
Laura Posted Jul 13, 2005
Yes , this is meant to be the Earth edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide, so by being a memeber of the site you are one of its researchers
It's often easier just to accept that it doesn't make any sense . I'm subscribed to Miscchat, so the conversation appears on my space
Yes, I'm one of the <./>ACE</.>s (Assistant Community Editor), the volunteer scheme aimed at helping new researchers though we do other things to . There are several other volunteer schemes too, including Scouts, Community Artists, Gurus etc. I got my ACE badge on 8th May 2003, so just over two years now
. Answering the questions of newbies is what us ACEs are for

And how come the key to balance or whatever I was first trying to reply to was on the Front Page today - do they just go revolve around the most comprehensive articles or???
