I have been meaning to drop by and embarrass you by complementing you on something we really have no choice on: genetics. You are good looking, and you might argue against me, but I thought so from your pictures from long ago!!! smiley - nahnah

I still don't know how I managed to picture you quite so accurately, given that I'd never seen a picture or more than the merest hint of a description.

Yeah... Americanified version of P'shaw.

My mother's up in arms about the French wearing t-shirts that say "Bush: International Terrorist", but I'm happy they do. If people don't express their opinions, then we all get incredibly stupid!!!

My brother had lunch with Mom and I and he agrees with the French, and Mom doesn't seem to understand what a terrorist is. So I got my 1983 dictionary and my 1996 dictionary and we looked it up after he left.

I suppose we're more used to terrorism over here; we lived with the IRA threat every day for about thirty years.

I've noticed an odd thing. Over here even people who are very much against the war (which, it must be said, is the vast majority) have very little respect for the French stand - the feeling seems to be that they are just 'being difficult', rather than acting on principle. Such is the awkward relationship between Britain and our nearest neighbour!

Thank you for posting the link to the Devon Flag article in LHG's fan club. It reminded me that there's much to be said about the union jack vs. the U.S. flag. We have ours flying in a lot of places, both before and after 9/11. Also, a LOT of Americans think that the flag of England is the Union Jack. Wrong.

smiley - blush I received an e-mail yesterday that talked about how I could write a quarterly column about the English, how I relate to them, adventures, observations, and how my relationship with Ian is coming along. smiley - wow

I don't want to be pegged as the English-American columnist of my college, but at the same time, Bloody Hell!!! I'm not complaining!!! smiley - smiley

Hope you are well. Thanks again. I like the Devon flag. The COLORADO one is much much better though... smiley - winkeye

The Devon flag is coming along nicely, BBC Devon is plugging it quite heavily! When a flag-maker posted to the original discussion, he pointed out that the Union Flag and the Stars and Stripes are two of the most difficult to make, and therefore the most expensive. A single Union Flag requires the cutting and sewing of 31 pieces of cloth, for instance!

Darn Cornish. smiley - sadface

Not that I really know anything about them!!! smiley - winkeye

Thanks for the info about the U.S. and G.B. flags (the union jack is for G.B., not the U.K. yes!??? I'm still confused on some things, and this will contribute to The Metropolitan. Dunno if I've explained they've asked me if I'd like to write a quarterly article about the English/my adventures in England.... I'm kinda fearful I may not be able to make it as interesting as they except... to me, it's fascinating, you see....). I've copied and pasted, and will credit you.

Here's info about my state's symbols. http://www.archives.state.co.us/arcembl.html

Enjoy!!!

The Union Flag is the flag of the UK - I don't think there is a GB flag as such. It should only really be called the Union Jack when flown from the jack mast of a ship, by the way. Each of the nations have their own flag, too (I'll try to find you a link in a minute!), not to mention several of the counties.

Anvil - a certain 'family' resemblance to the St. Pirran's Cross was deliberate; don't forget that Devon and Cornwall were both part of the Celtic kingdom of Dumnonia (and the Cornish only avoided being invaded by the Saxons for less than a century after the Devonians).

The Saxons? Well, I don't suppose they thought there was much worth going into Cornwall for.smiley - tongueout

Or maybe there was just a long queue for the Torpoint ferry.smiley - winkeye
