Taliesin, hi! smiley - smiley

I have just received your Mind of Michelangelo Entry to SubEdit. I've read it through and it looks really cool! I'll never look at that fresco the same way again. Oh, here's the Entry's new URL:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A681680

That's the version that will go to the Front Page, smiley - wow probably pretty soon. It doesn't look like I have much editing to do. I redid the blockquotes according to the approved GuideML guidelines, and you might want to check out the code at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/test681680

... to see how I did it. Using the tag as a specialized tag is a bit simpler than using tables, though probably less fun.

There's one thing I wanted to consult with you about. Someone suggested changing the title of the Entry. What you have now, 'The Mind of Michelangelo' is a good title, but doesn't exactly indicate the topic of the Entry, y'know? I was thinking of something along the lines of 'Michelangelo's Creation of Adam - A New Interpretation', but that's fairly boring, I think. Any ideas? I'll also ask the other Subs, but I want to be on the same page with you before any final changes are made.

Anyway, Congratulations, and Thanks for the great Entry! smiley - ok

Thanks GTB smiley - bubbly

Actually, I thought of the title as a mild pun.. 'mind'/'brain'.. Evocative, but perhaps overly-subtle for the guide.smiley - erm

I will contemplate some alternatives, and post them here shortly..

Thanks for the reminder about the tag... I honestly just forgot it existed.. comes from playing about with tables too often.

BTW, I used the American 'color' somewhere in there.. spell check will locate it..

smiley - cool

Michelangelo's 'Adam' - the human brain?

Good grief, no! smiley - yikes

Sounds like a children's story or something..

'Edward and the Blue Teacup,' 'Mary and the Ball of Wool,'..... smiley - yuk

One of the points I had hoped to make was that no one interpretation can be proven unequivocally.. Maybe Michelangelo was depicting the mind of God, and then again, maybe he had something else in mind smiley - winkeye

How about, 'The Mystery of Michelangelo's Creation of Adam?' or, 'Michelangelo's Mysterious Creation of Adam Fresco?'

I would prefer the title indicate the art and the artist, rather than deities or religion

The Mystery of Michelangelo's 'Creation of Adam'

I think that's what I'm settling on. It's one of your suggestions, so I hope it's ok. I'm about to submit the Entry to the Towers, but it still won't be too late for changes. Just let me know if there's anything that requires editorial attention...

Thanks again for the Entry! smiley - ok

The Mystery of Michelangelo's 'Creation of Adam'

smiley - ok

Works for me! Thanks smiley - rose

Do you know if I could submit some artwork to accompany the article?

I believe the copyright is off the original, and I doubt if Michelangelo would have minded, anyway! And I've created an outline drawing of the human brain mid-sagittal cross-section indicating some of the relevant areas..

smiley - cheers

That sounds rad! I'll ask, straightaway. I expect they're pretty busy with the upgrade today, but I'll let you know when I get a reply.

Tal, hi. smiley - smiley

I'm sorry. I asked the Towers, but they said no. smiley - blue It was a sort of, "if we include one researcher's artwork then we'll have to include every researcher's artwork" sort of thing, which probably makes sense, but is still too bad.

Anyway, I see from the new datestamp that the in-house team has finished polishing the Entry, so it is now in the queue for the Front Page! Any day now... smiley - bigeyes

I suppose they have no choice.. however, I was not intending to claim credit for any artwork, and was intending to provide it copyright free to the site.

For that matter, I am quite sure I have seen researcher provided photos and artwork on various entries, and an italic even once suggested to me that I provide photos for a proposed entry dealing with Canada

Ah, well.

Did you notice the strategic positioning of the 'brain on a palette?'

Yes, to have something to compare with... so - who's picture is it? Did you get to use yours, or is it Sri's?

The image accompanying the article was likely composed by Sri. It's a darn good one, too!

My idea was to create a tracing of the relevant cortical areas, and juxtapose it with a reproduction of the Michelangelo painting. But I am quite satisfied with the illustration, and we have avoided dealing with throngs of disgruntled researchers griping about not being able to include their own artwork.

The strategically placed brain-on-a-palette neatly conceals certain, (ahem), areas of Adam's anatomy! smiley - winkeye
