Awake: update
Posted Mar 18, 2001
Did you like "Awake?" I did. And so did a lot of people, many of them judges at a well-known poetry site. This site runs a monthly contest, and "Awake" is a semi-finalist! I'm very proud of this. Stay tuned for more poems.

Music: playing
Posted Jan 15, 2001
I play the trombone. I play it badly. But I'm in a Marching Band. Sometimes, I wonder how they could let someone as bad as me play...
There is a reason I play the trombone. Because the only other trombonist is hot, intelligent, and funny. That's actually why I took up the trombone.
Sadly, she and I had a bit of a falling out. And now playing the trombone is an annoyance.
Also, my sister is VERY musically inclined. She plays 3 types of sax, and a guitar. And she's in District Chorus (best singers in the county). She picked up on all her instruments very quickly.
Because of this, I get constant pressure from my mother to practice harder. She doesn't seem to understand that a saxophone's keys are lined up in the right order, while the trombone has 6 positions that change notes like I change socks (daily).
So, I have to weigh the options here. I really like the Marching Band people, but I can't play worth s**t.
This sucks on toast.

Battling Noohr
Posted Jan 15, 2001
This dude is whack.
I'm fighting for the Gay Rights movement on Speakout, and there is this one dude on here: NoohrInc.
His handle stands for National Organization Of Heterosexual Rights. Don't ask.
But anyways, he's using the sort of arguments found in the cold war. HUAC (house un-american activities council) would blacklist people for being commies or pinkos. Or arguments seen during witch trials. Or the sort of thing found when the south was fighting to keep rights away from blacks.
Personally, it's disgusting. How can a grown man be so superstitious?

Homosexuality
Posted Jan 14, 2001
True, I am straight, but that doesn't keep me from getting annoyed when I am deafened by homophobic slurs.
I cannot imagine how someone could hate an entire group of people, just because they're different. It's very repulsive.
Maybe they hate gay men, becasue they were taught to. I am reminded of the song from "South Pacific":
You've got to be taught
before it's too late
before you are six
or seven or eight
to hate all the people
your relatives hate
you've got to be carefully taught
It makes sense, I suppose. You see, hatred is only genetic in terms of mental disorders. Otherwise, you have to be taught to hate that much.
I spend a lot of time battling homophobia. Never in person, tho. If I did, it would turn into a witch hunt (me being the witch). But online, I spend most of my time at Speakout, debating on the forum. (You can find me as MozeMan in the Gay Rights Forum at [URL Removed by moderator] )
I don't think I'll convert many people. I'm not that egotistic. I would refer to it as 'fighting the good fight.' I might lose, but I'll have fought.

When I Awake
Posted Jan 14, 2001
I can still taste the air
Filling my lungs with purity
But then I awake
To the sound of terror
The terror of hatred
I can feel the grass between my toes
As I run through the field
Yet when I awake
I am reminded that my life
Is surrounded by ignorance
I can reach out to the trees
Brush them, draw power from them
But when I am awake
There is nothing but death
Death of peace, death of compassion
I can express every emotion
With no fear of dispersion
But then I awake
And I pull into my skin
To survive is to deny myself
One day I will return home
I will find peace again
But then I awake
