Rambling diary of a meet

Friday 25th Jan 2002.

~10:30, met with Lost in Scotland at Glasgow Central, went to Queen St and found fords_prefect and vogonpoet. Had lunch, toddled off to hire car place. Started snowing. Note - do not get in a snowball fight with someone who plays American football and can therefore throw things.

~11:30, got hire car (Zafira. Big - good. High sided - very bad, as we were about to find out). Got outta Glasgow quick like, dodging the snowploughs. Only slightly worried.

Drove down, wrestling with sidewinds most of the way. Through some faultless navigation on my part, arrived at Woking around 9. Entered Woking and promptly got lost. Phoned Munchkin, who eventually had to come and find us. Parked car, went to pub.

Time passed.

Pub shut at 11. Grr. Went back to Chez Munchkin, talked toot. Got some sleep somewhere between 5 and 9, I think.

Saturday. Wandered in to London and found the pub around 1 pm, and discovered lots of researchers there already. Was not surprised. Had lunch, and then had liquid lunch. Was recognised, even though badge was 400 miles away. Hmmm.

Somehow got added to a photo hunt. Saw more tube stations than in my entire life. Somehow managed to loose the only italic in the group (Sam) on Oxford road. Oops. Got to Sutton Arms about 7ish, got into Sutton Arms about 7:05. Considered crowd surfing to the bar. Consumed first Moxon.

Upstairs opened. Legged it upstairs. Ahhh. Contributed one answer to pub quiz, taking my strike rate up by, well, lots. Signed lots of copies of Post, and did other stuff which I'm sure made sense at the time.

Left pub at ~11 ish, and got tube to Waterloo. Just in time for the second last train to Woking. Or not - Munchkin has to go. Munchkin has keys to flat. We wait for Munchkin. Train leaves.

Wander about and find other hootoo group who also missed train. Wait. Wait some more. Babel-17 finds out why wearing a kilt in London is a bad idea. Other bloke finds out Babel is a True Scot (TM).

Huzza, the last train! back to Woking. Zzzz.

Sunday. Surface gradually, and am confused by the lack of hangover. Drink large amounts of Bru anyway, just in case. We should go out for food, but decide to watch Roobarb and Custard instead. About 1 pm vogonpoet arrives, having asked around for 'short bloke who wears hat, answers to name of Munchkin'. Munchkin considers moving house, and possibly country.

1:30, we're off! Get on to M6, disengage brain. Discover the joys of passing lorries in high winds on Shap, in thick fog and rain. Joy.

~8:30, arrive at Edinburgh and say goodbye to fords and VP.

~10 pm, arrive at Greenock, and tattie bye to LiS.

Sometime before 11, arrive home. Zonk.

Must do this again sometime smiley - smiley
