Thinking of a new car
GreyDesk Posted Aug 6, 2006
That's true enough, but we're not talking about a pint of Pedigree here. This is more of a Timothy Taylor's Landlord, or an Exmoor Gold type of an affair.
There simply aren't that many of these cars out there.
For example last week's copy of Auto Trader for London and the South East had precisely nought Ibiza 1.9TDi's up for sale. If the car that I'm interested in that is up for sale is in Birmingham and I'm going to have to go up there blind as it were, well then that is exactly what I'm going to have to do. I have little choice in the matter.
And FB, there is no way that I'm going to lie to an insurance company over the details of a car. To do so would invalidate my insurance and leave me open to picking up the costs of repairs/replacement of my car plus the other driver(s)'s car(s), plus - and this is the real kicker - the treatment costs of anyone and everyone who got injured as a result of the accident.

The insurers were really not very happy with the idea of a chipped engine, and positively threw a wobbly when I said that it had tinted glass fitted. (I must admit, I wasn't that keen on the glass thing.) So that's Birmingham knocked into a cocked hat.
The good new though is that there is one a little closer to home in Essex, and I'm watching it closely

Yes, of course. And there's nothing that I fancy.
Small diesel or bigger petrol engines, yes that's doable. Bigger diesel, no sir, not this week

Patience is a virtue!
I am sure you will get one soon

I didn't bid as high as the guy's reserve price, so I didn't win the auction.
However, he offered me one of eBay's "second chance" bid thingies, and in it he told me what his floor was for a second bid - silly boy. I'm now in e-mail communication about the final price. A price that is £150 less - not that he knows that - than the price I bid when I didn't hit his over-optimistic reserve.

That's a bit unfair. GreyDesk has got many virtues.
Probably.

A price has been agreed. Now all I need is the bankers draft and the train fare to Hornchurch
The plan is to go up there next Sunday.
(It's just as well I've got it all sorted as my Peugeot's MOT runs out very soon and there is no way it will pass this time around )

That looks quite smart - loads of safety features! I have to depend on good driving to keep me safe.
Email about to be sent.
