GMail Spam
GreyDesk Posted Jan 26, 2006
I'm a little bit worried that the greydesk gmail account name has fallen into the hands of some e-mail spammers. I've just deleted half a dozen e-mails inviting me to purchase cheap software.
Oh dear, not this one as well

I've recently started getting emails with the same (or very similar) subject lines on several of my Gmail accounts, but not more than two or three a week on each account.

One of my Gmail accounts has started getting spam recently - about one a day - the other one never gets any. I wonder why (one and not the other).

I'm still getting the odd spam to my account, but it's weird because invariably it's not actually sent to my address but one similar (it's missing a full stop)

Bloody hell How many end up in the spam box and how many make it rhough to your inbox?
Conveniently, I was just about to go searching for this thread to ask...
Why would anyone want pain relief medications shipped discreetly Pornogrpahy - yes. Viagra - yes. But aspirin? Unless they're talking about shipping morphine

Almost all go straight to the spam box. I reckon I get only half a dozen going to my inbox.
What is potentially more worrying is what happens if genuine e-mails get directed to the spam box; I'd never get to see them, as I don't really want to plough through all that junk. This misdirection has happened on occasions with the (generally spam free) greydesk account.

Set up filters with labels for all your newsletters etc and for family members or Friends, that way even if they do get labelled as spam you will still see them under their relevant labels.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013 Posted Feb 20, 2006
My spam box is slowly filling with offers of CHEEAP WAY TO BIGGR UR SHORT & THIN D... don't know what comes next as that is all that fits on the subject line...
Have also had some of that poetic random-word stuff with dodgy attachments - I like those! Mind you, still only getting a few a week so not quite at the same level of exasperation as GD yet!

I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better just to block them full stop!
Blow the false positives, I wouldn't mind losing the odd newsletter/mailshot in order to keep my inbox spam free.

I find the gmail spam filter very good, if you mark spam the ends up your inbox as spam (and of course mark innocent stuff that ends up in your spam folder as not spam) it learn quickly. Although I receive a lot of spam (mainly from two old non gmail account that I have set to forward to my gmail account these days I very rarely get a false spam marking either way I think this is because I took the time to train the filter.

The misdirected spam that I get is exclusively stuff from MSN Groups. Gmail it seems can't quite decide if everything that Bill produces is junk or not

Sorry, that should read the real stuff that is misdirected as spam.

BV was here a few days ago, picking me up before we went to the flicks. She checked her Gmail account while she was here...
Almost 4,000 mails in the spam box
There are a number of reasons for this though. Firstly, she visits and registers with several websites and online communities that I would consider to be potential spam generators of the first water. Secondly, she can't be bothered to do anything as tiresome as cleaning out the spam box. And thirdly, she's just not bothered by spam or PC security.
Which worries me a little since we still share a savings account which can be accessed online

I took a look at the Spam box for no apparently good reason, and I found that the Web Clips thing was pointing here --> http://www.recipesource.com/main-dishes/meat/pork/spam/00/rec0019.html
Rather sweet I think
