It was the campaign for the football smiley - F79114?thread=159739

I got the bright idea of posting one < football > (without the spaces) on the first day, then two, then four and so on until we got the smiley.

Suffice to say with all that doubling up on 10 characters a time, I eventually went through the maximum limit - apparently 200,000 - of characters that can go in any one post.

And then < football > started working as a proper smiley...

If you decide to investigate that thread. The first and last blobs are fine; the second gets a bit hairy; and I daren't try three and four for fear of breaking something.

That was in my very early days as a Researcher. I only signed up in February 02, and only started using the site proper in about June of that year. So it's quite understandable that, like so much else, it just passed me by.
