You work for the BBC? (interest, interest) What do you do?
I'm an ACE, which basically means I've volunteered for the 'official' job of meeting and greeting newcomers to the guide - a 'welcome mat' as someone said. I think they were being sarcastic when they did say it, but it's a fair description I guess. Except that not all of us are flat and hairy...
If you feel a need to meet completely different people, then the Beach http://www.h2g2.com/A207686 is a good place to do it. And get donuts.
If you have any questions at all, then you can drop by my page (just click on my name) and ask, or go and ask all the ACEs at their homepage http://www.h2g2.com/Aces and they will do their utmost best to help you. Cos we're friendly people.
Hope you enjoy h2g2!

Hi Ming - or do I call you 'Emperor'?
Yep, I work for the BBC. Officially I'm a project manager, working mostly on overseas studios in all those places you only hear of when there's a reporter looking harassed in a flak jacket with shrapnel whislting past his ears. I supply the facilities they need, and then occasionally someone drops by and blows them up. Which is nice.
This week I are mostly working in Paris trying to get a refurbished studio online. I just heard that a 4 inch water pipe burst all over it on friday and half the equipment got lost in the post over christmas...but apart from that, things look good!
I'll probably get over to the beach but only if they let me drink coconuts. I promise not to wipe my feet.

No, just call me Ming. Just to clear this, I'm female, everyone seems to think I'm male...
Oh, right. Does the word 'variety' describe it or have I got this wrong?
Ah- that doesn't sound good... positively bad in fact... Good luck with it.
Yes, I'm sure they'll let you drink coconut milk, but you'll have to find the coconuts first...

When I've finished a job, I enjoy it. When I'm deep in a problem, I enjoy it. When they stop shooting at me, I enjoy it. The bits in between, sometimes not so good!

Ah, don't look at it like that! I can't think how you could look at it instead, but don't look at it like that!
I don't think any Royal people will see it though, so you could still be in with a chance. Well, the same chance as you had before you wrote it, anyhow...

Which are somewhere between 'fat' and 'thin'.
Ah well, time to hunt up the old towel and head for Rio (I wish...)
Ming Mang Posted Jan 20, 2001
*grins* Well, I'm sure you've got more of a chance than me.
