Hi Ocarina,
I'm new to this mularky so I'm just scouting about saying 'hello' to all the interesting looking people..
"Hello!"
How does one go about target shhooting indoors?
All the best,
JT Rocketfellah

Aww thanks for thinking I'm interesting...
Well I used to shoot at an indoor range, special set up with lead shielding and such. I need to start going more often, keep in practice. You just sign up here?
Greetings
JT Rocketfellah Posted Apr 28, 2003
Yeah just new yesterday,
H2G2 seems to be full of really genuine folks though.
I did a little bit of target shooting when I worked in the US for a while but never tried it when I came back over here.
I must admit, at first I thought you meant indoor clay pigeon shooting which had me a bit worried...I was rather knackered at the time.(?!?!)
Does the name 'Ocarina' have anything to do with the musical instrument of the same name?
Greetings
Ocarina Cave Girl Posted Apr 29, 2003
hehe... indoor clay pigeon shooting that would be something... Yes, Ocarina has to do with the instrument, actually was part of a misunderstanding on the part of a friend who thought I said I played the ocarina (I play the oboe) and who is obsessed with the Zelda game.
So where are you from? I'm assuming somewhere in the UK by your way of speaking (er... typing... whatever...). I spent a summer in Scotland, best time of my life :D Can't wait to return, maybe will move to the Isle of Skye to raise sheep!
Talk to you soon,
OCG

Maybe we're onto something with the indoor clay pigeon shooting - remember the original "Rollerball" film with James Caan? Get a circular shaped room, with a domed ceiling, fire that clay pigeon and you'd better get it before it gets you! hehe.
Where am I from in Scotland? I'm staying in Ayr at the moment (down the coast from Glasgow) but have also stayed in Perth, Edinburgh (for a long time), Glen Affric (in the middle of no-where and on the way to Skye - draw a line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and you'll find it) and Inverness.
Where do you hail from?
Yeah, as the tribulations of life continue to slap us in the face, moving to Skye to raise sheep does have its appeal, though I must admit I'd rather move to Colorado (Skye can be a bit on the wet side) and raise some kiddies in the mountains (though that may be a bit difficult at the moment, haha)
Later OCG,
Rocketfellah.

lol. Well I am from Pennsylvania. Actually I believe the Isle of Skye may be less wet than it is here, at least at the current time of year.... I have been to Perth, and Edinburgh... and actually quite a bit of Scotland (on that 4 day weekend when everyone in Glasgow has holiday, my flatmates and I rented a car and went just about everywhere).
Keep up with the good ideas, you may be onto something with the indoor pigeons ;D
Pennsylvania?!?!
JT Rocketfellah Posted Apr 30, 2003
You're joking! I worked in Greeley for a year and at Lake Wallenpaupack (can't remember the spelling I'm afraid).
Best time of my life!
It's a small world OCR!
Pennsylvania?!?!
Ocarina Cave Girl Posted May 1, 2003
Hmmm.... what part of the state is Greeley in? Not familiar with it... I don't generally like giving away too much detail but my stomping grounds are south central PA but have spent some time out near Pittsburgh too.
Pennsylvania?!?!
JT Rocketfellah Posted May 1, 2003
The closest sizeable towns were Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.
Never got to Pittsburgh.
Basically the reason I think why I liked that area in Pennsylvania so much was because the scenery and forests reminded me a lot of Scotland but with the added ingredient of sunshine (most of the time).
I also spent some time in NJ (Chatham) and New York (State) Binghampton (thought I didn't like the latter that much) as well as NYC.
I imagine that (now this comment is based only on the Pennsylvanians I met - don't take it the wrong way) there aren't very many fencing, gregorian chanting, oboe playing girls there. How did you get into these activities?
Pennsylvania?!?!
Ocarina Cave Girl Posted May 2, 2003
Hmm.... one of the corners of the state I haven't been to. And Binghamton NY... one of my friends is going to school there next year.
As for my interests, well most of them I started in college, and there is a lot more to do in southcentral PA than where you were ;D
Pennsylvania?!?!
JT Rocketfellah Posted May 2, 2003
The college in Binghampton's okay - I knew some people who worked there and visited them there a couple of times. One thing I remember - near the college is the worst chinese restaurant I've ever been to in my life but there were a few really good music and book shops in the city centre.
So what's the area of PA you come from like? It sounds as though its a little less rural than where I stayed. I was shocked to hear about those nuns being arrested near Greeley at that missile silo - I had no idea there was a minuteman site near where I was.
Anyway, have to get going - visiting friends in Glasgow this weekend and have got to catch a train in a couple of hours.
Later,

Before I go - I just remembered you said you stayed in Perth and Edinburgh etc when you visited here. Where did you stay in Perth? A lot of American travellers stay at the Youth Hostel. Just out of curiosity - I was interim manager at the hostel for a few months when the permanent manager was ill. Could the world be getting even smaller?

Well if you've ever seen the movie Witness, that's the sort of area I live in, but I'm not Amish (obviously, or I wouldn't be here ;D) and it has gotten pretty built up since the time that movie was filmed. I guess "suburban" is the best description.
As for Perth, I was just passing through, so I didn't stay overnight. I do remember eating at a very good pizza restaurant, I forget what it was called tho... hmmm
Anyway have fun in Glasgow!!
Perth, Amish etc
JT Rocketfellah Posted May 5, 2003
Just back from Glasgow but not quite recovered yet - still a bit bleary eyed.
Yes I've seen 'Witness' though I didn't know it was shot in Pennsylvania. For some reason I thought it was set in Ohio, though I don't know where I got that from. It does look like wonderful countryside though you say it's mostly built up now.
The Amish life looks quite nice to me if it wasn't for the God and no sin thing (that sounds terrible). I'm not a 'believer' but do respect folk who do - it must be nice to have something to turn to in times of need (though religion does also cause a few problems). All the rest of the stuff I think I could quite happily put up with.
No computer? No problem. No car? No biggy. No Mobile phone? Excellent!
No alcohol? Hmmmm. No movies? Aaagh. No stereo? Help!
Apparently there is an Amish community somewhere in Scotland, but don't know where - it's supposed to be very secret and miles from anywhere.
Anyway, have to go set up all the mics - starting to record the new album today, should be finished mixing and mastering in 2 or 3 weeks hopefully.
Hope you had a good weekend,
JTR

Sorry it took so long to reply... glad to hear you had a good time. I seem to remember hearing about the Scottish Amish... oh well!
What sort of album are you recording?
Recording
JT Rocketfellah Posted May 12, 2003
Pretty laid back music OCR. About the closest comparison to the feel or genre would be Will Oldham (Palace Brothers/Bonny Prince Billy), the Cowboy Junkies or Smog....but only really in spirit.
I also play instrumental folk in a seperate duo and in a colaborative band (folks from different jobbing bands - we get together to work on each other's stuff).
Anyway - got to get showered, fed and started for another day. Five songs down so far.
All the best,
JTR
