An hour ago I posted a Very Important Question to Askh2g2 about DVD rental services, and I saw it post and come through and it was definitely there, and now it's gone from Askh2g2 and my conversations list and I don't know where or why! 
Is it hiding or do I have to post the beautifully-written and cunningly-phrased questions again?

One word: cache.
Three words: Three different caches.
Hootoo is served from three different servers. You get one at random when you request a page. To reduce the stress on the database, they cache the HTML. But each server keeps its own cache, so you can get inconsistencies.
