You're welcome
I nearly had a heart attack when I saw this conversation popping up after all this long time

Awww, I'm sorry! I only post every 6 months or so, it's much more exciting this way I hope your heart is going well, I don't want to murder anyone. Although, that would be rather intriguing case if it did happen.

I do have some planned actually, but I don't know if they'll ever go ahead! Hope the subbing is going well

Oh, I've stopped subbing, yours and Icy's were the last entries I subbed. Time was sparse and I found I had bitten off more than I could chew, so I handed my badge back.

Oh, sorry to hear that. But I remember feeling the same way when I was an ACE and Scout. I always wanted to try Subbing, but never got around to it. And I'm not sure why I have a Guru badge! Still, I hope this means you have time to pursue other areas of the site.

I'm still an ace and a scout, and now that I am a post reporter, too, I'm busy enough.
I usually stick to PR, the newbie list, and my friends' journals as well as my journals - that does keep me busy

Ah yes but you are still very dedicated!
(In my absence I appear to have forgotten the clapping hands smiley!)

It's
It took me nearly three years on site before I got involved with voluntary work and wrote my first guide entry. It's somehow addictive, though

Thanks!
It took me a while to get involved with stuff too...not that long though! I think I was scared of doing it wrong. Oh boy but it is so addictive! It was very hard for me to leave. And even now I still pop back!

I guess it took me so long because I was so concerned about my English. But after I had been to two or three meets and talked with people here on a daily basis for so long, I eventually dared getting involved with the more serious stuff.
Why did you feel you had to leave?

Concerned about your English? What's wrong with your English? Are you one of those genius European h2g2ers who speaks absolutely perfect English as a second language?
It's great you've been to meets. I've never made it to one, although I did visit the Towers once! I had to leave because of a nasty thread...it was a long time ago now. Plus I needed to pretend I have a life

That's funny, for some reason, I thought you lived in Oz or NZ - don't ask. But if you're in the UK, you really should try going to a meet, they're great fun.
And English is indeed my second language, but I wouldn't say I'm a genious. Thanks for that, though, I'm really pleased you didn't notice.

Aw, so you are a foreign language genius! Very impressive! When did you start learning English?
You are correct, I do live in Australia, but I went to the Towers on one of my visits to the UK. (I have actually been over to England twice since I joined the site!) Unfortunately my trips seemed specially timed to avoid the major meets by a few weeks but maybe one day. I'm secretly quite fond of London actually.

I started learning English at the age of ten, did nine years of it in school, then another six years at university, then nothing for about 15 years, then started reading books in English again, and then I joined the site after having read 'the Salmon of Doubt'.
That's nearly four years ago now.
I like London - as a tourist - but I don't think I'd give an arm and a leg to live there.
I live in Germany which isn't too far away, so I can go to the meets once or twice a year.
I've never been to Australia, in fact, I've never left Europe.

Wow, that is a long time studying one language! And six years of uni?! I don't think I would be dedicated enough. I love languages, but when they get hard I just switch to another one for the next few years. So far I am up to my serious study of number 3 and I've forgotten most of the other two.
I agree, London would be a bit tough to live in, mainly because it's just so expensive! I guess Germany is fairly expensive too, but things are much cheaper here, although I think we all earn less, so it probably sorts itself out but I do like spending time in London. Especially when I get free accommodation provided by family
I hope you get to go to Australia some day. Europe is awesome and I would love to spend more time there. Germany is actually one of the few European countries which I've never visited (went through on a train once or twice though).
