poems and phloem
Poetry is really the perfect summation for me. If asked to define myself I will, after letting the inquirer know that they are a mindless b*****d for asking such a pointless question, probably say that I'm a poet. It's a whole life philosophy really. Anyone who is truly interested in poetry would probably agree with me that it's a form of spiritual release. Poems can be a sort of prayer. I am quite certain that many, if not all, of my poems are written by passing spirits who use my body as a vessel for their personal expression.
That being said... the topic of "why do you never publish" comes up when I talk to people. Well for one reason, I'm lazy. The other, more important, reason is that my poems are like my children, and I'm an overprotective parent. I always have to know where they are, who they're hanging out with, are they eating healthy food? God forbid they should get involved with a bad crowd and start sampling hard drugs, getting into fist-to-cuffs with enemy gangs.
My other obsession is music. I don't make much of my own, but most of my pocket money goes towards purchasing new albums. I have an almost embarassingly large collection of Tori Amos and Jeff Buckley works. And I'm not just talking Napster downloads. I'm talking imports and singles and all the toppings. (an asside: although I do like napster and use it on occasion, I only use it to download unreleased or live tracks or to sample works by people that I may want to purchase in the future). Other favourite artists include Björk, Portishead, Gary Lucas, and Ani Difranco.
I suppose that will do for now. I do have other interests but am not in the mood to expound on them right now. Maybe some other day.
