Hi, Killer Queen:
If violas sound so bad, why did Henry Purcell write so many
pieces for viol consorts?
Or why did Handel write solo viola concerti?
Or Mozart (who was well aware of status) agree to play
viola when he got together for string quartets with
Haydn, Vanhal, and Dittersdorf?

Well, yeah, I think they're amusing, too.
I know a lady who plays the viola for an amateur
orchestra. She also runs marathons and is a big
fan of Schubert lieder.
As for a violist rising in the social world
by linking up with an accordian player.....
I used to play accordian. It's not that big a
step up

If you see a conductor and a violist standing in the middle of the road, which do you run over first???
The conductor: business before pleasure!
