'Roman names consisted of the praenomen, nomen, and cognomen.' - Did you want to expand on this a little bit as it isn't entirely true? Most Roman male names did, but it doesn't apply to slaves or women, or some Roman males such as Mark Antony or Gaius Marius.

I think most of that footnote was composed by Sasha. I kept getting tangled up writing about names. You're right, let's sort it out.
Would you be happy with it if you changed it to 'Most Roman male names...'? Or 'It was common for names of male Roman citizens to consist of...'?
