Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I just posted a thank you to paulh. As I know you are usually looking for filler so I thought I would give you a link to this.

It is short and by no means important, but if you want it you are welcome, otherwise no problem.

smiley - snork Aren't grandparents wonderful? And uncles, too. That would seriously impede your condiment consumption, wouldn't it? smiley - rofl

I was just going to tell people that if they had anything for the 'Be a Kid' challenge, I'd love to have it through November, because otherwise, we're all just doing NaJo.

So I'll put this one in the November 6th issue. smiley - smiley Thanks for the chuckle. Here's one from me:

I had grandparents who lived up in the hills. One breakfast time, my grandmother served everyone, then sat down and put her teeth on a napkin beside her place. Then she started stirring her coffee.

'Mary Emma!' bellowed my grandfather. 'Put yore teeth in! We have comp'ny!'

My grandmother gave her husband a firm look. 'I cain't hardly eat with them mail-order teeth,' she announced. 'I'm a-gonna have to send 'em back. They don't fit right.'

We kids nearly choked, trying not to laugh. They were wonderful - and better than theatre.

>Back in the Sixties, a film came out called 'Summer of '42'. The tagline was, 'Where were you in the summer of '42?'

>I couldn't help it. I asked my dad, who was 16 that year.

>'Pluckin' chickens in Detroit,' was his answer. (He paid off a family debt with his earnings.)

>Gack....that might make a good Create theme....

I wanted to move this over here, so as not to pollute the PR thread smiley - biggrin

I remember that 'American Graffiti' also used 'Where were you in 62'.

Given the age range of Researchers a better Create challenge would be 'What event influenced your life, and in what year did it happen? You are not limited to just one.'

I will probably reply, but as I have already posted several, I will have to review my back-log to make sure I am not repeating.

P.S. my dad was working as a machine operator in a defense plant in '42, the next year he was drafted and jumped into The Bulge.

smiley - laugh That was exactly my thought! That we'd say, 'pick a year, and tell us what you were doing that summer.' I'm going to keep that on the back burner and introduce it at the first opportunity - you and FWR always have good yarns to tell that way. smiley - smiley The Post appreciates them.

My dad was drafted in 1944, straight out of school, and arrived just *after* the Bulge. smiley - laugh He was at Metz and the rest of it.
