Who am I?
You know, I never really know what to write in 'about me' pages. I mean, what sort of tone should I aim for? How much information about myself should I give away?I could take it too seriously and produce a dusty, dry entry that gives only the bare facts but creates no interest. The sort of entry more suited to a dictionary: dull, utilitarian. For instance, I could just say things like:
I'm bald.
I work in London.
I live in a three bedroomed house.
While all that may be technically accurate, it's hardly going to pique anyone's curiosity, is it? Maybe I should go the other way and make it all up, pretend I'm flamboyant and extravagantly outrageous.
"While fishing just off the coast of San Diego, I saved the life of a little girl who was being attacked by a shark. The parents insisted on giving me a reward but, on national television, I donated it to charity instead."
or
"In my days as a MP, I threw a lavish party at a top London hotel for a thousand people that lasted for five days."
or even
"I am an alien from the planet Zarg and I am here to drink your beer and enslave your women."
While they may invite a question or two or even raise a smile, they tell you nothing about who I am and that, after all, is the only reason for writing this in the first place. So, some sort of happy medium, then?
You know what, I've got a better idea. I'll just let my entries speak for themselves. If they don't tell you anything about me then nothing will.
By the way, you may be wondering who Riemann is. Well, he was a German mathematician who died shortly before his 40th birthday in 1866. He contributed to a wide range of mathematical studies and left what is now the greatest unsolved theory of all - the Riemann Hypothesis. He was a brilliant man. Me? I was his notepad.
