Just thought I'd stop by... Have a mufflewhump!

Anyway, I'm going to be stopping in St. Louis on my way to New York August 2nd. I've got a 2 hour layover... Unfortunately, I'm getting into St. Louis around 5.30 amsmiley - sadface So, instead of asking if you'd like to do something (as asking someone I barely even know to come meet me that early would be a bit much, even for me) (though if you want to, that'd be greatsmiley - smiley But I'm not asking, because it *is* so early) I was wondering if you knew if there is a restaurant in/near the airport, because neither the flight that lands there or the one that's going on to New York will be serving food...

hey! sorry it took me a bit to get to this, i saw it the other day and had to think about it so i wouldn't give you wrong information. i drive past the airport every day, and never pay any attention to what's near it.

oddly enough i would have been happy to meet you for breakfast, but i will be getting to work about the same time you're touching down. i may be able to make arrangements to go in late, but i won't know anything for sure until much closer to that time.

cross-country with no meal? out of curiosity, what airline is that?

there are a few places to eat in the airport, but i'm not sure which of them will be open that time of day. i can call the airport and find out what's available. outside of the airport, there are a few restaurants within a mile or two. there's a waffle house, a steak n shake, a del taco, a white castle, and a place called tiffany's, all of them should be open 24 hours. actually i'm not sure if the white castle is, but i wouldn't recommend them for breakfast or just before a flight anyway. del taco and tiffany's i haven't tried, so i don't know if they're any good, i don't even know if del taco serves breakfast. between the other two, i would recommend the waffle house purely on personal preference.

how long will you be in new york?

Not long, actually... I'm going to the Pennsylvania Dutch Meet, but flying to New York and riding down is cheaper *shrugs* So I'll just be in New York from 11ish to whenever Tac wants to leave to drive on down... And then I'll be riding back to New York with Shea and TJ Sunday night, and sleeping there, and flying home Monday.

I'm flying American Airlines, and there's meals on both the flights back home, so I don't know why there's not on the way east... Maybe because I'm taking the red eye from Sacramento, and then will only be on the next plane for a little bit? I dunno...

Del Taco? And here I thought that was a local chain... They're pretty goodsmiley - smiley Better'n Taco Bell or Taco Time, anyway...
No breakfast though, I don't think...

If you could make it for breakfast, that'd be smiley - cool Keep me posted?

And thanks for looking--after all, we've never even really talked before.. I think at most, you've been lumped in with everyone when I've said smiley - hug everyone in one of Ottox's threads... Oh, and the Midwest Meet thread, of course...

smiley - hug

*waves back* smiley - biggrin

sorry. i went on my days off and didn't get back to you.

the breakfast thing, like i said, will be a lot closer to the actual date before i know anything for sure. at this point it is a day that i work. if i'm still on this schedule and we still have a floater in my department i can just ask the floater to cover for me for a couple of hours. right now, tho, there are a lot of things that can change between now and then. i'll keep you posted.

i know we haven't talked much, but we have a few common friends i think smiley - winkeye how cool that you're going to a meet! i'm hoping eventually we can get the midwest meet worked out. it just seems that this year has been bad for me trying to schedule anything! things keep coming up unexpectedly. i've just been told this morning that i will have to work part of the july 4th weekend smiley - sadface (even tho i'm scheduled off smiley - grr)

you're in california, aren't you? what part?

I'm in Sacramentosmiley - smiley

And I understand not knowing this far in advance! That and finances are why my husband's not going to the meet...

But I'm definately going--my ticket's non-refundable and non-transferable, so if I don't go, it'd be like throwing that money away... Not that I expect anything to come up...

What is it that you do, anyway, if it's not too nosy of me?

i have an uncle that lives in south gate, but i've never been to any other part of california.

i'm a security clerk, we work a schedule that's called cww- continuous work week. it means i work four days in a row, then i take four days off so my week cycles 8 days instead of 7. it takes some getting used to, but it means that theoretically i could quickly find out whether or not i'm working on christmas 2005 smiley - smiley it has its perks, like over the summer when my son's out of school and i'm off during the week, we can go do things together when places aren't as crowded as they are on the weekends. this week we went with my sister, mother and grandmother to the butterfly house, an open flight facility with thousands of butterflies in it smiley - bluebutterfly.

what do you do in sacramento?

Hi broe!

skip that, actually i thought i remembered that being on your page, i just hadn't been there in awhile. so while i was thinking about it i went and looked smiley - smiley

i do a lot of my posting from work as well (most all of it). one of the drawbacks of that schedule i mentioned is that the hours are long: 5:30 am to 6:30 pm. but that's just more time i get to spend here smiley - winkeye

Are pages loading for you now? I never did have those problems while you were posting to the Forum... Of course, I wasn't anywhere near a computer from Friday to Monday...

Hi broe!

Post 11

broelan

and that was when i was having the problems. monday it seemed to go a bit smoother, but then the work-week was back on and i didn't have enough time to catch up. everything appears to be fine today, i'm dredging my way thru 4 mp pages of backlog... and other than that having a particularly stressful week. smiley - smiley

if things stay the way they are at work, i won't be able to meet you for breakfast on the 2nd. one of my co-workers has left to join the illinois state police, so the department is short-handed. however, i am set to swap shifts, essentially working the days i have off now and vice versa. i don't know if that will be taking place the end of july or mid-august. so again, i'll know more later.

how are things in sunny california?

Oops, that should have been 'a long' not along...

So is that waffle place within walking distance of the airport? (I didn't read the backlog here, and just realized that I didn't remember the restaurant's name...) It's too bad we won't get to meet... Especially since we've still plenty of time to get to know each other before Tom takes me to the airportsmiley - winkeye

Hi broe!

Post 14

broelan

well... it's not been completely ruled out yet... smiley - smiley
it's a long and complicated bit of scheduling, but the short story is this: after some jostling of personnell the person i'm now working with wants to trade shifts. origianally we planned to do this at the end of august, but since i've had to cancel my vacation this month we may do it at the end of this month. if we do i will be off on the 2nd, and go back to work on the 3rd. but we haven't gotten approval from management to do this, and right now our supervisor is on vacation.

no, the waffle house isn't within walking distance, but would be a relatively cheap cab ride (unless i make it, then it's free smiley - smiley)

i'll keep you posted!

So, um, do you know yet...?

Hi broe!

Post 17

broelan

actually i had just logged on to post an update here smiley - smiley great minds think alike?

unfortunately now it doesn't look as if i'll make itsmiley - blue. we got approval to swap shifts but then decided to do it later in august, now they're talking about restructuring our operating hours as of labor day which will affect our schedule. so we may put it off until september even, to see what happens.

i did, however, manage to get some more information about what's open that time of day. in addition to the places i listed earlier, there are about ten different restaurants in the airport that open between 5:00 and 5:45 a.m. the full list can be found here: http://www.lambert-stlouis.com/faq/index.htm

in the map section of the site you can locate the gate you will be arriving at and then find someplace that would be close if you like.

and of course, if anything changes i'll keep you posted!

are you getting excited yet?
