A lost week
Posted Jun 16, 2003
It all started Tuesday, with a relatively harmless phonecall to Daz. 'Fancy a swift pint at the Blues Jam' 'Yeah'. Staggered out far too much beer later, and sat online talking to people until three in the morning.
Wednesday, text message from the Goblin King 'What about my Birthday?' Uhhh, that's Friday then. Ok, we'll go to Southend, see Tree. That'll be a .
Thursday. Went to meet various people in a pub from SharkTrust.org (there's a link on my u-space). Got suffiently squiffy that I missed Temple Tube and ended up at Charing Cross.
Friday to Southend. The Alex, to be precise. I guessed it was going to be a night when Tree's sister produced a bottle of tequilla and six shot glasses. No memory *at all* of how we got to Tree's, though I remember stopping for a burger. 12.30 saturday come round. Fynn's Man was expecting me in London 2 hrs ago. My fridge was expecting me to stuff it with food 4 hours ago. Stayed at Tree's while his lovely girlfriend cooked us breakast/lunch at 3.30. Crawled home at 7, to Ed and Bob's to chill and watch Strange, which I quite enjoyed.
Sunday. Deepest rural Suffolk, well Bures, anyway for a BBQ hosted by my boss and his lovely wife. Tops, but not restful exactly...
Monday sit at work unable to focus. Think I'll be having some quiet nights in this week...
On the other hand, was very chuffed to find this website;
http://www.the-wicker-man.co.uk
Which is the links page for the Wicker Man Conference in Glasgow this Summer. Go down and click on the BBC Site link. That's mine, that is.

Putting in perspective.
Posted Jun 9, 2003
Had a few ups and downs recently. Mostly downs, but I can still see the top of the mountain, so I guess it's not all that bad.
Got a phonecall Saturday evening from the aged parents. My mother has to go into hospital for the second time in two months in a couple of weeks. The first time was to remove a growth on her lymph gland. This time all the lymph nodes are being taken out and it looks as though there will be chemotherapy. For the first time in a long time (and my mother is sole carer for my Parkinson's suffering father, as well as having failing hearing herself and sundry other ailments), she actually sounded old, scared and tired.
Compared to that, my problems are relatively trivial. I'd like to apologize to those who've had to bear the brunt of my rather arrogant assumption recently that the world revolves around me.
And I'd like to thank God, who in the words of Mark Twain is a malign thug.

one of thwe nicest people I've met in a long time. We talked for about half ahour about how he got into his chosen trade ('a traditional apprenticeship'), the blues (a man whose heard of sam Nighthawk and Robert Lockwood Jr! Taste indeed...), rock'n' roll and the join between the two and a number of other things. I met his girlfriend who seemed rather nice.
I hardly even noticed that he was sticking rather vicious needles in me, which, it has to be said, wasn't as bad as the stinging is now...
