now see here.
there is a difference between the land belonging to you, and you belonging to the land.
there is a difference between something being yours because you own it, and something being yours because you love it.

I mean, really. If you're a boy, and you're reading this, here is something you should never do: Never tell a girl you like about other girls you like just to see what her reaction is. Cause you know what fellas, girls can see right through that. This means you, Whitley Parker.

press and Matilda
Posted Oct 6, 2000
so today i took my staff (high school newspaper, i'm editor in chief) up to CU Press Day, in Boulder. they, i think, were mostly bored, but i got to go to an excellent meeting of all the editors-in-chief of high school publications in CO. it was amazing to be around all these people and to really feel a part of that group. these are high school kids who actually care about ethics and freedom of the press, are organized, talented, and funny......wow.
then i was tutoring this evening at my volunteer job, and i was reading Matilda by Roald Dahl out loud with Robin - it was so rewarding. At the end i asked Robin if she'd like to take the book home, and her eyes lit up, and she said "i *can*?" in a totally amazed voice. she adores that book. and this was the girl who was described to me as definetly having a weakness in reading! and now she loves it.

Spinoza

Philosophy Club today discussed Spinoza - actually we mostly argued about rational proofs for the existence of God. i don't think there are any, really. you have to accept, at some point, some sort of premise that can't be proven.
