I have to admit that I have learned quite a lesson from your misfortune Wolfie. Quite a chilling effect really... I have always been rather reluctant to start my own thread, and am more so now.

There's nothing wrong with starting new threads, it's encouraged, because this is after all a *community* site.
It's not encouraged, though, to start lots and lots of threads and then post identical or similar messages to them, to the extent that no-one else wants to post in them any more.
If it's kept (relatively) sensible, then h2g2 is a wonderful place for starting new conversations with people about *anything*
