Is it usual for all conversations to be removed, apart from journal entries and messages, when one is on pre-mod?

Yes it is normal Postings are being pre-moderated and will only appear after they have been approved by a Moderator.

I'm going to ask all of you one very simple and very serious question. After reading through more threads than I ever have, after wading through countless pages worth of chatter, after seeing how many people have left and how many people have tried to assist Wolfden, I'm going to ask this one very, very, very simple question...

Why is he allowed to stay on this site?

At some point winning the war isn't worth the effort because of all the scars that have been inflicted. When is that point going to be reached? By the time you folks finally wise up and get around to banning him you're going to see just what damage has been done and it's not going to be a pretty sight to behold.

I have no vested interest in ANYONE'S stupid chatter. I have a vested interest in the Guide. For all I care all of these dumb conversation forums can go away. You should all be ashamed for letting this riot act of a man continue with his crap if it led to numerous researchers whose works *WE* have all enjoyed.

Jesus Christ. This is a joke, right? The way ACEs and Scouts are allowed to treat people around here is absolutely unacceptable. Not only is Wolfden being a constant menace so are many other members of this website.

I'm going to say something which most of you will resent and others will accuse me of being pretentious, but shove off. Douglas Adams would be absolutely ashamed of this project if he were still alive. Administer this website or shut it the heck down.

This website CANNOT deal with "eventually being banned," it has to be SOON or you'll soon find yourself on the receiving end of a landslide. For those of you who have been interacting with internet communities for the better part of a decade should know this by now. It happens to all large communities who do not take responsibility for their actions and their words. The h2g2, which the first time I read Hitchhiker's back in the mid-90s was immediately what I thought should exist on the internet, will become just another passe little junker of a site if it keeps hemorrhaging researchers under the guise of "being fair to all and to all a fair (second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or millionth) chance."

I have no problem with you. I've hardly read anything you have written. As opposed to getting butt-hurt about a broad statement I made it would have been much easier to simply ask if I thought you were one of those unbehaved Scouts. Assumptions are pretty unnecessary in a situation such as this, especially with someone being as "forthright" as I am being.

Unless you use a form of sarcasm that I'm not even aware of (brava! if so, I will be the first to buy the bartender a drink ) that was a very broad shot fired across my bow indicating just how hostile you take my generalisation of bad Scouts.

No, it doesn't betray what I think because you got that wrong. I don't take things personally, but I do stand up for the Scouts as a group when people make such broad, sweeping statements about their behaviour as "The way ACEs and Scouts are allowed to treat people around here is absolutely unacceptable", which, incidentally, is nothing to do with the matter at hand and I propose to let it go here.

And for what it's worth, I have no problems with you either, only with some of what you say.

It has everything to do with the matter at hand. Some Scouts and ACEs, not all, which you never should have assumed I meant in the first place, seem to treat people as they see fit just because they believe their position can defer whatever sort of punishment might befall them. Actually, to be quite honest, it matters not what they think as much as what they do. Any Scout or ACE who makes posts which have a deleterious effect on this community should be stricken from the record and be stripped of their merits.

Pre-moderation and the House Rules are useless because there is no end-all, be-all punishment. There is nary a threat of removal from this website, and be very glad that this website is nowhere near as popular as Wikipedia lest you'd be finding out just how large of a problem a lack of Administration can be.

LW has not been involved in the Edited Guide in any way--the only place he has been annoying people is in exactly those "dumb conversations" you don't care about. It's because lots of people do care about them, and don't consider them dumb, that there is a problem here.

I don't think the Scouts have been involved in this business in any way as Scouts--since LW hasn't gone near Peer Review or the Edited Guide, any concerns they have are as individuals. If you think there is a problem with the Scouts doing their job in Peer Review, then why not raise the topic in the community Soapbox, rather than tagging it on to what is a separate issue?

I can see that many people who do hang around in general conversation threads can find LW extremely irritating, but banning people just because they're annoying seems to me to be a very bad idea. LW is now on pre-moderation, and seems to have unsubscribed from nearly all the conversations he was in, so I'm certainly prepared to wait and see what happens.

I was trying to illustrate how even I, someone who has no interest in said conversations, can find his intentions outwardly hostile and disruptive. It is nice that you try and deflect the impact of his actions by simply calling them annoying, but hostile and disruptive are what you should be chiming in with. He is simply here to cause problems. If he is not participating in the Edited Guide then what is his worth? Is h2g2 a chatroom? If his only input is in the conversation forums, and his input is generally frowned upon - not due to his opinions but due to the way he expresses them - what is his worth?

The Scouts and the ACEs have been involved with other situations very similar to this. It seems as if the Guide is very fragmented in its social circles, and one circle isn't aware of the problems of another. Users are harassing users, Scouts and ACEs are harassing users. A lot of it can be chalked up to the aggressive style of many people's language usage but a lot of it can be chalked up to having simply an aggessive nature towards others period.

Pre-moderation will not solve the problem. Only a complete and utter pullout and the will-power not to be disruptive and outwardly hostile will solve the problem. Until then all actions aside from banning will only be treating the symptoms.

Once again how many chances can someone be given before they are deemed unacceptable? How many chances do you give, how many folks do you lose, how many conversations get disrupted and how many forums are flooded before enough is enough?
