Seeks someone to patronise and generally annoy, and it's your turn.
It seems that you may now be open to consider the merit of:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A538661
Something you probably know:
the Citizens' Advice Bureaux have a debt counselling service, although many are overworked; some local authorities too. Both have the advantage of being fee free.
A few years ago, a friend was in difficulties - albeit probably less severe. The banks involved were quite good in suspending interest and re-scheduling, when we told them. It is, of course, in their interest (sorry, unintended) to have satisfied customers in the long term; and if they know there is a problem they can respond. If they don't know, they get stroppy.
So, now you know how to suck eggs.
Thinking of you.

Hi, Plaguesville
Stumbled on this by accident - I don't often scroll down on my home page (makes mental note to do it more often).
Thanks for the advice.
There were major debt problems last year, which were eventually resolved by increasing the mortgage on the house, and paying off most of the debtors.
It came about when my income dropped with a career change (going 'permanent' after contracting for many years). My annual gross income went from £45k one year to £22k the next, and then £33k the year after. We didn't change out lifestyle very much to suit. It's back to £40k now, but there's the added expense of me living seperately now, but still supporting th old family home.
I don't have a debt problem yet (apart from the car), but I could very easily aquire one !!
I have promised to try to be sensible (though that in itself isn't easy !!!!!) and restrict my purchases to the barest essentials to keep a roof over my head, remain fit and healthy, and not be a complete social hermit.
I'm really touched that you care - I've been given so much support in the last weeks or so, that I feel truely priviledged.
Thank you, Nikki

Glad to hear the pay is headed in the right direction, long may it continue. Pleased to see you don't need the advice, grateful that you're not offended.
First thing I do is examine "my space". If my obituary isn't there, I carry on.
I find that people get the treatment they deserve but sadly not the good fortune; i.e. if you have been well treated, it's because people reckon you're worth it. And there's quite a few.
(Note to self - must look into the good fortune thing.)
regards,
p.

The subject line of this thread was irresistable.
Relieved to see you guys weren't really talking about me after all.
Glad to see plaguesville doing his kindly old geezer thing.
Curious about Niiki-D's car repair, because I recently loaned my truck to an ex-brother-in-law who did a similar backing-up-into-an-unseen-object trick. Ya see Nicki-D, misery really does love company!
He said nothing and simply left the truck back at my sisters, where I was heart broken to see the damage. At first because it would be costly, but now, only because he didn't even mention it or subsequently acknowledge it. The damn thing's still in my sister's driveway, I don't have the heart or strength to sort it out.
Which kinda shows ya why he's an ex-brother-in-law.
*god knows where that all came from*
peace

I don't think the subject title describes any of my friends here, so jwf don't you worry, and plaguesville don't put yourself down.
I've been bad at asking for advice, so I won't ever be offended by advice offered by friends, though of course I may not act on it.
Love.
