After Doctor Who yesterday I switched to ITV2, probably the first time I've done that except for football. What I wanted was X-Men, which is now confirmed in my mind as a thoroughly great fillum. The bits that annoyed me slightly when I saw it a couple of years back (the old trapped in a burning vehicle because your seatbelt's stuck cliche and some appalling dialogue for Halle Berry) didn't bother me so much, but the good bits were just as good.
So, what do I like? Well, there's the complexity of the plot, which could so easily have been "bad mutants try to destroy the world, good mutants stop them", but instead revolves around the politics, with Prof. X and his bunch trying to stand between the humans that fear mutants and the mutants that fear humans. Magneto comparing the proposed mutant registration to Nazism whilst himself believing mutants to be such a superior race that humans don't matter any more is a nice touch. Then some of the characters, especially Wolverine who is basically a git. Finally I hate to damage my reputation as a thoroughly reconstructed modern man, but I must confess to finding Halle Berry's bottom distracting on occasion. That Jean Grey's a bit of a looker, too.

Wow, this has to be one of the slickest rip-offs that I've seen on the net. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but it'll help if you've seen the recent Renault advert:
