I believe you did mention Greenwich. See the dome? Is it still there even? I can't remember what they're supposed to be doing with it. Did you go anywhere from Bridlington? Like the North York Moors, for instance?
I'll give you the point about the non-tourist season; hopefully the tackier elements have disappeared along with the crowds and you can see why the place became popular in the first place (hopefully not because of advertising and hype )..
So, any general impressions of England? Any new words for Shea's dictionary?

I LOOOVE England... went to York from Bridlington.... didn't catch sight of any dome in Greenwich, but I had a Greenwich Park agenda...
I bought a UK/US dictionary... it's missing a lot!!!
Trying to change to the time difference...

Bagpuss Posted Jan 22, 2002
You went through Malton and Norton then? Were they flooded?
What's it missing? If you tried using it to look up words you heard in Brid, I'm not surprised.
You get used to the time after a few months.

A few months!?? ARGH!!!
I have school tomorrow!!!
Crude words were missing from the dictionary, as well as trolley for cart... grocery buggie or basket...
Didn't really hear many people speak in Brid...
Nothing was flooded, and I don't remember going through Malton and Norton!??

Bagpuss Posted Jan 24, 2002
Perhaps I should pay more attention, but a basket's a basket, right? Doesn't have wheels and therefore is not a trolley. I wonder if I've been confusing people here by refering to a "trolley".
Sorry, Malton and Norton lie between Scarborough and York and were flooded twice in about 8 months. They're probably not at the moment, though.

Poor Malton and Norton...
I think it is dumb to call a cart a basket, too!!! ARGH!!! On the Western Slope of the Rockies in Colorado, we refer to them as carts. I got on the other side of the mountains and people were calling them buggies and baskets and I was lost!!! ARGH!!!
Trolley and cart make the most sense...
buggy... heh... That's what ***I*** am, hahahaha...
You've probably been confusing people with trolley.
I want to move to England. Thank you.

I know, I'm not sure if it were worse the first time, when it was just them, or the second when most of the country got involved.
Around where I'm from, a lot of people say "trucks" for trolleys (buggies (carts)), would that be more or less confusing? Probably more, what with the goods being delivered to the store in trucks, then taken away in trucks to be loaded into trucks.
Do I gather that, overall, taking everything into account, you rather enjoyed your time in the UK?

Oh, that truck.
The isle really made an impression on you, didn't it? So where are you considering? Leeds is nice. Well, sort of.

Remind me I have tedious college-searching to do, why don't you!?? ::sniffle:: I'm just trying to get through my backlog and homework while composing a decent article for the school newspaper!!!
Fun, really....
I have circled about ten choices from a packet I got yesterday at school:U of Brighton, U of Greenwich, U of London(various schools), South Bank University.... and others...
The isle means a lot to me, my boyfriend lives there....

Hey, you brought it up. Anyway, I thought women could multi-task.
They're all down south (probably, where is South Bank?), still never mind, you can visit the north.

I'd prefer to be attending school down south, because I'd be living in Sussex, my dear...
I don't think I will transfer until my final year, which may be as much as TWO YEARS from now!!!
It will be expensive... And I'm trying to establish myself as an opinion writer for my school newspaper....

Bagpuss Posted Jan 30, 2002
Sussex, eh? W.G. Grace's county I believe. Not that that's necessarily a good thing...
So would that mean you'd do your final year out in England? So you'd graduate there?
I know full well how much studying abroad costs.

Yes, graduate in England if possible... and... have a career in England!?? Oooooo... parents won't like that... but I love England, and I love my sweetheart!!!!
Ian's not REALLY a Southerner... he was born in Yorkshire country and... when he started teaching, he kept a look out for places to live... there was an English recession and he was able to buy a housie.... YAY!!!
It's funny how co-workers think I've found a rich older man(yeah, he's older than me!!!): He can travel to Spain and Italy and France and see me in America. Now if I tell them he lives in the South, and explain that that means it is crowded and more pricey, ha ha hahaa...
This could be fun...
And the cost of education is bad enough without studying abroad. I'm lucky to attend one of THE most affordable colleges in the State.... Really love the professors and courses, too...

Bagpuss Posted Jan 31, 2002
Ah yes, you said his mum was in Bridlington. So Ian's an East Riding lad is he?
From Sussex travelling to France isn't that impressive. I believe a day trip to Paris is quicker and cheaper than one to York. Don't tell your cow-orkers that, though, let them remain impressed.
Enjoy yourself. Amd try to find a uni that doesn't have absolutely ridiculous graduation robes.

That's okay.
*worries he's just let Ian in for some "take me to Paris, go on it's cheaper than York" nagging*
Um, I'm not quite certain about what I said there.

Oh, it's nothing to worry about, love. Ian and I both relish the opportunity to travel. I don't like to nag. Quite happy just to have time with him!!! YAY!!!
School tomorrow... better go to bed...
