Do the mean our volunteers' code of conduct, or Facebook's code? Or do you mean that our code should govern what our volunteers say on other sites?

I think they should confirm whether they believe what they posted on a public forum was befitting of their office.

That seems reasonable. Does H2G2 investigate such things?

I won't go and look.

Thanks paulh for your words of comfort. And you, Icy. You're two of the good guys.

Oh, I shouldn't have done, but I did.

You're right, Icy. I see that the word that one of the volunteers called me on Facebook can not actually be repeated here, because the system is set up to consider it offensive.

Nice to know that those 14 years of work on the system were appreciated.

This site still has a problem in that we seem to be losing artists. This is not the sort of problem that can be solved by having non-artists like myself step into the breach. smiley - sadface

What I wonder, though, is whether publicity [any kind of publicity, whether positive or negative] at Facebook might send curious people to our site to see what we are like.

Who was it that said there is no such thing as bad publicity? Just be sure they spell your name right. smiley - winkeye

I need to stop procrastinating and finish my third solo entry. I feel so inadequate.

I need to stop procrastinating too. The thing is, I have dozens of recipes that could be worked up for the Guide. Maybe in the new year? smiley - winkeye

I think I was fourth to reach 100 entries, but first to reach 150.

I was saying about the artists, their purpose is to illustrate entries, and I think there is probably occasionally some friction between artists and the authors of the entries they illustrate because they don't consult with the authors in any way.

I certainly got the impression from FWR's reaction to my request for a change to the picture that this was not the first time that an author was not entirely happy with his picture.

Perhaps if the artists consulted with the authors, everyone including the artists would be happier, and artists would feel more valued by the community.

They're a lot better now than when the BBC Editors chose stock photos from the BBC News library. I still haven't got over my entry for metric prefixes being illustrated with a garden gnome carrying a chainsaw.

Better communication is a laudable goal no matter how you slice it. The thing is, I don't want to be in any way divisive here. When I think back to Malabarista's comments a few months ago, I remember arguing that this is a writer's site. I'm not backing away from that philosophy exactly, but would it be so terrible to organize things so the artists were happier and felt more valued?

Artists' contributions are sometimes misunderstood by writers. A famous children's writer used to live in my home town. My mother, as the head librarian in the town, had to deal with her. My mother said that the prize-winning book for which the author was most famous was actually prize-worthy because of the illustrations. Great illustrators have played a major role in classics such "Alice in Wonderland," "Make way for Ducklings," and many other books. Even the Harry Potter books were helped enormously by the cover art.

I would like to see the best possible guide entries here, with great art. Stock photos may work for the BBC and Wikipedia, but we don't have their high visibility. smiley - grovel

I don't think anyone's doubting the value that artists' illustrations have brought to the project. Mala's artwork for my Malaysian Teapot Worship entry really brought that one to life.

I've no doubt that entries are greatly improved by the illustrations. I believe there is a policy to illustrate almost every new entry.

Strange.

Three of my entries were promoted to Edited last week bringing me to 201 Solo Edited Entries. Now two of those have been demoted again. I'm back to 199 Edited Entries.

Still, it's a good number. I can be proud of what I've done for this site and for the memory of Douglas Adams. If this site dies, as I feel will happen in the next month or two, at least it provided a lot of entertainment while it lasted.
