Gnomon - time to move on

We're heading to New York in 10 days' time - just three of us: Mrs G, El and me. I'm really looking forward to it. I've only been in New York once before and it feels really friendly and welcoming. There's lots to do, the food is good (particularly the lunch-time food) and I might even wander into a few shops (although I'm not a shopper).

I'm hoping I can use Mrs G's iPhone or El's iTouch to keep in touch for the week I'm gone.

I am looking forward to the photos already! Have fun - and are you taking empty suitcases with you, to give you lots of room for the shopping?

If you do, make sure you remove the price tags and don't keep the receipts. Or maybe customs in Ireland doesn't care?

I've heard of people going to factory outlets near New York and buy three or four suitcases full of clothes, then being stopped at customs on the way back. We won't buy much.

I've never been so I'm jealous!

My parents went a couple of years ago. They went on a walking tour with a company called Big Onion, which they highly recommend. The guides are graduate students at the local universities I think.

The tour they did was a foodie tour round all the neighbourhoods (so they'd go to Korean areas, try something, then to Italian areas, try something else etc. The company had arrangments with various shops who would provide the people on the tour with some food to try). They do various other tours too if that doesn't appeal.

Gnomon - time to move on

Well, the packing's all done and it's time I went to bed. Up in 6 hours to go to New York.

I'm glad the fact that we won the bid has finally been announced, along with my position as one of the new Editors. Maybe I'll get to put my name in italics! But that'll be when I get back.

Goodnight all!

yes - have a great time! I'll look forward to hearing all about it when you return.

I'm a bit sorry that you won't be around for the next week, but I expect the party atmosphere will carry on awhile here in h2g2.

We can catch up with site news when you get back

Safe journey!

Gnomon - time to move on

I'm back now.

I'm still confused as to what time it is. When I went to bed last night at 11, I'd been up for 34 hours. I remember waking up last night sitting at the computer, staring at this screen:

and thinking it was a map of New York. I decided it was time for bed.

I'm better now, but still not thinking completely straight. I can't remember where things are - at least, more than I normally can't remember. I'm glad I've a day off work today to recover.

It's always a good idea to take an extra day to recover.

Who told me that for each hour you fly eastwards you need one day to recover? Wasn't that you, Gnomon? You should have taken a week off work. smiley - hug
