Rats leaving the sinking ship Yes, it's taking on water but it ain't done yet. The more people leave the greater reason they have to shut up shop, especially if it is respected contributors like Gnomon and Galaxy Babe etc. who are leaving. The site lacks support you see

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship. Posted Jan 25, 2011
Please! I have inherited Winnie the Pooh's little brain of small space.
Could we just have one 'h2g2 demise' thread I can follow?
I don't want to spam, but could someone link them all together to make one logical, sensible thread that makes it seem as though we know what we are aiming for, rather than a scatological random approach?
Or is that to much to ask of the ?

I certainly must pray that the site is not closing. As a web site h2g2 is almost unique and is among the most distinctive features available on the current BBC system.

That was 15 hours ago, better news has arrived since then. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F77636?thread=8018187 It's not the end yet. The BBC specifically are not shutting down h2g2, rather they're looking for options for someone else to take it over. This could be very good news. Remain calm.

The point about rats leaving a sinking ship is that they survive. And I'm honoured, Websailor, that you compare me a rat - an animal I respect.
But if people feel there is useful work I can do here, I'll stay on to help my friends.
I'm not going to get involved in any discussions as to how things should be, though.
I'm changing my name to Spannerman to show my intention to get things working.

I didn't mention rats, you did. I said "Folks just jumping ship at the first sign of distress. "
The rats are free to leave, but I'd like the ship saved if we can.
How that happens, I'm not as concerned with. I'll pitch in if needed.
I actually have been thinking about writing again. Maybe something about NASA flight imagery, once I get a good angle on it (other than saying that the images I'm scanning now of the lunar surface are right dull and boring. ).
