Gnomon - time to move on

We had the draw today to choose the names for our Kris Kindle, which will take place at my work Christmas Lunch. We're going to a lovely Thai restaurant, and we'll exchange after the lunch presents there.

I thought our office was being very premature by doing our Secret Santa draw 2 weeks ago! But now I'm busy organising the office dinner (a nice restaurant in the Cathedral quarter) plus a joint do with our southern colleagues - I'm trying to arrange a tour of Stormont smiley - smiley

oh yes, the two are inextricably linked.

we don't do secret santa either - but there are too many of us for that really. And we do have a nice company do with raffle prizes and so on.

Rev Nick

My company was kind enough to accept a decree that several trade groups will not work after December 17th until January 4th again. (The commander of the Air Force squadron that contracts us chose which trade groups) So about 50 or so of us get to find our own way to meet the costs of 5 work days, be it left-over vacation time (vacation year ends Dec 31st) or time off without pay. For me, this is an ordered 4 days without salary ... a fairly sizeable bite out of an average budget.

Company festivities will be a bit sparse and chilled this year.

Nick, we get two days of at Christmas, plus my company gives us an extra day. They insist we go in on Christmas Eve, but very little work is done. And they insist we take two days annual leave after Christmas. This brings us up to the public holiday on New Year's Day, so we get a 10-day holiday.

I've arranged to visit Hong Kong for panto (oh yes I have). My ex-colleagues have invited me to departmental Christmas lunch complete with Yankee swap (like secret Santa but you don't know the recipient and later numbers can swap if they prefer another gift) Now, shall I take the Chocolate Moose (a large stuffed toy smelling of chocolate) I won at village bingo on Thursday?smiley - starsmiley - star

We were talking Christmas concerts at lunch today. I'm much more in the mood for it this year than I have been in quite a few years.

The small choir I'm in don't do a Christmas Concert, but we're giving a concert of non-Christmas music tomorrow evening, featuring Victoria's Requiem and Sheppard's Media Vita, a stupendous piece. It'll be in St Patrick's Cathedral.

Then the Christmas stuff starts in about 10 days, with Messiah.
