Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Apr 12, 2007
I spent all of yesterday stripping wallpaper, using an electric steamer. I'm trying to get our old study ready for next week, when Big Ben, Mrs G's father, is coming to stay with us.
He's recovering from a massive heart operation and isn't ready to go back to his house and look after himself yet.

How is BB? Presumably the study's downstairs?
I remember similar shenanigans when the BI had a knee replacement... 's office had to be re-furnished with bed etc.
Somehow it always stayed there afterwards (the bed) which was awfully useful for late nights with the accounts and tax returns

Yes, the study is downstairs. Unfortunately, the only shower is upstairs. So we may have to drive him to other people's houses for showers.

"So we may have to drive him to other people's houses for showers."
You're in Ireland aren't you? It's always raining over there - just take him outside for a few minutes every day

True, we could just drive around with the windows open.

Wait, you say 'the study is downstairs. Unfortunately, the only shower is upstairs.' But water flows downhill - I see many possibilities, though none probably that Mrs G would approve of.

HI, Gnomon,
with the stripping - not a bad thing in this weather assuming you are getting similar temperatures in Ireland!!
I hope Big Ben makes a speedy recovery. Don't forget to give him our best wishes. It must have been a tough time for Mrs. G and the family.
(you'll need that!!)

I got up early on Saturday and started preparing the room. Then I wallpapered it. I finished at 1:35am on Sunday.

If we're going to collect creatively misleading titles, I nominate this:
