Up until recently, I haven't really chatted to anyone much except for Alien, so it's more that I've been addicted to her.......but now that I'm meeting more and more people online....

How long have you been on h2g2?
I mself have been on about 2 monghts I think, and am getting to know quite a few people.... but i hate the way that it all starts getting interesting just when i start getting tired and needing to go to bed, that the trouble with it being mostly UK based I guess...
Not to worry....They reckon there are something like 60,000 users on h2g2 - thats a pretty major community.. funny how I always run into the same people (Gosho, Crescent, trillians Child, mina)

Since the 24th of July, according to my page......I spent most of my time originally just lurking, prefering just to read conversations rather than posdt in them because everyone always seemed to know each other......and because I only got on a couple of times a week, and couldn't keep up with a lot of conversations.....now I actually greet newbies while I'm waiting for Alien to get online, but only if they haven't already been greeted by an ACE....I know how excited I was to get my first post on the page......but because it was an ACE, I didn't think much of it, cause I realised it wasn't much more than a form letter.....in fact, i didn't hear from the ACE who posted on my page for ages...not until he became the procrastinators society and then he became the royal mage in my kingdom...

Ok stupid question coming up... whats a mage?
I too often wander around to peoples pages and visit, and sometimes people dont even reply, but I reckon its better than butting into a conversation where people seem to know each other and you look like a complete git. these days of course I just wander around as if i own the place... I figure people will tell me to butt out if they want to, or failing that they just wont talk to me...
I haven't visited any of the bars yet though, I am still getting the hang of the whole *virtual* stuff.. you read some of these posts and you could almost swear some of these people are actually all in one room and someone is writing down what they are doing... or that you are reading a screenplay from a movie in the process of being filmed...
interesting to read, not to easy to write.. Thats why I prefer wandering around and visiting....I even take a chocolate cake with me sometimes...

A mage is basically a sorcerer of sorts...more naturalistic though....it's Big Evil Dan, btw......ussally there isn't a problem with butting in, so long as you don't mind being ignored... I often get ignored by newbies...
...the only thing I've really ventured into in the way of the little "virtual city" around here is the Aroma Cafe....even that is annoying to keep up with, particularly because most of the conversation tends to happen whilst I'm asleep....or at least should be...
...continuity is the big thing to watch out for...people can get annoyed if you drop in on a rpg type thread without any explanation.....you don't have to tell me about not being easy to write, especially in real time.....a few of the threads I'm in every day are of the rpg variety, but fortunately the laws of continuity are generally little more than sneered at, which makes things a bit easier...
....the kingdom would be a good place to start, the pace of virtual life there is quite slow there at the moment.....
.....No more tonight, time for "The Panel".....toodles madoodles....

Tee hee hee... thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't want to be sacreligious... I hear some people worship at the Church of the True Brownie(and I don't blame them!!!!), so I fear being offensive about chocolate cake protocol...

You sound like you've performed that ritual many times before........personally I'd go for a nice cream-filled sponge cake to rest my feet on.....
