And its not like you need to worry about anyone reading it. You just write it out of yourself. That's what a journal is.

Mrs Zen Posted Sep 4, 2011
Yep. Mine use to have poems and much weeping, wailing and gnashing of verse. I'm happier now, though.

You reached the promised land then? I come and go. But seriously to attract new people I think it could be a selling point. people, especially women are crying out for it.

Mrs Zen Posted Sep 4, 2011
Not the promised land. Can't give Z a Messiah complex now! Besides which, nighthoover's not yet arrived.

But yeah we should think about it being a *safe* place here for writers. people are so scared to write stuff,,the truth..and once you work through that all sorts of amazing stuff can happen.

Mrs Zen Posted Sep 4, 2011
There's safe and safe.
Too safe means people just get soft admiring flattery and don't do things that are difficult but which help them grow.
Too harsh means people don't do things that are difficult either because they are crushed.
Lanza's doing a lot to make PR more constructive, in particular to make it more supportive for people whose first language is not English. Sol's working on creativity that can sit alongside PR and the Edited Guide.
Now. I must walk slowly and carefully away from the internet. I must, I must, I must.

I mean safe to really say stuff in journals..then you move onto other areas.
Christ there's loads I'd be too scared to write in a journal here.
Look I'd really like to discuss this with you later in a less rushed way.
Get back to me later

Actually scrub that last post. Stick with your own ideas.

Effers;England. Posted Sep 4, 2011
Look seriously if we can sit down together and discuss this calmly without you about to run off to your disertation at any moment with a bit of time, I think it could be good. I really do think my ideas are worth considering. But if I've already burned my bridges with you too bad. You know I'm stroppy.
Leave a message if you're interested.

Mrs Zen Posted Sep 4, 2011
No bridges burned. I don't do burning bridges.
I am interested in what you have to say on this one - partly because I'm interested in your ideas on the topic, and partly because it's about making h2g2 better and I am ALWAYS interested in that.
To you want to talk here entrez nous, or do you want to start a new thread on my PS where anyone can join in? Up to you.

I'm not brilliant in groups to do with creativity.
Initially I'd like to talk it through with just you..and then it could be put out as a rough idea to thers..I may or maynot take part in that.
But we could start a new thread in any case just for this?
I'm so glad you don't do bridge burning

Well hopefully for you to Okay later I'll start a thread on your ps called 'Journals' and outline a few ideas I have..and we can take it from there. And it doesn't need to be a thing when you're not running off to your dissertation..I mean its a message board. But it was so hectic earlier I forgot that.
But we might need to clarify a bit how writing works for us as a creative thing in the discussion and not make assumptions we work in the same way. It could be brilliantly interesting personally as well.
I don't mean we need to spell it out at the start..but to bear in mind different ways of working.
And I want things to stay friendly. A silly thing to say maybe..but I got so paranoid of late about my abilities to stay friendly with people ..aside from jwf
okay enough waffle. I'll think things through a bit and post later today or tomorrow.

Actually I can't guarentee it will be tomorrow it might be later but I have come up with some good ideas. I simply can't cope with the harassement I get from Nick..on top of my upset last night with Ed..on top of the continuing anguish I feel at the loss of my friendship with kea.
This place is literally sending me insane.
Ben to Effers
Mrs Zen Posted Sep 4, 2011
Oh. That sucks. Better off-line than on when you feel like that.
I looked at the thread with Nick and honestly, posting quickly and quirkily is not a crime. I know Lil think's he's a problem worth reporting, and that's up to you. But I saw nothing there but a bit of banter. As someone said about Freud, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Sometimes a post is just a post. Your objection seemed to be to the speed of his replies, but posting quick replies is not an aggressive or nasty thing to do.

He's been doing it over a long period of time. And I know what's going on. I'm suddenly much happier here just posting in my journal and with jwf. I'm going to continue with that as long as I need it. Its safe. And I absolutely do not want Nick posting on my journal. I'll yikes immediately if he does. In the past there was a long drawn out situation where I repeatedly asked him not to post on my ps..and he kept on doing it, unsubbing then resubbing etc..it became really difficult...it was sending me mad. There's a lot of history.
And its safe because it means even if others don't see patterns I see it won't matter.
Because of real life experiences I have had of 'abuse' it will affect what I can cope with.
No, not better offline. Functioning in real life is so difficult..that being here is essential, so its about finding a way for that to be okay.
But I won't be posting here until I feel properly safe again in this place.
The journal stuff will have to go on indefinite hold.
see yer later.

I had thought of this idea that people could have a totally private journal space to play around with language...a bit like the sketchbooks we were encouraged to use on the Arts foundation course I did. (A sketchbook rarely has anything to do with sketching btw). And then put some stuff across into the public ones.
But in reality I doubt many people would use them...and suddenly that all seems a bit artificial and fussy.
So better to just get people more prepared to play around with their writing on the public ones.

I like the idea of a sketchbook for writing though...
*thinks*
Thinking of writing as an art really makes me re-think how I write and about writing in general.
