Do you have any idea why she enjoys such protection from the mods? We all know that she has trolled several threads to extinction, derailed others, flamed virtually everyone, and obviously contributes absolutely nothing but acrimony; pretty much anyone else would be banned.
Why does she keep getting a pass?

EDDY:
<< Both myself and the person who compared Sai Baba to a Scouser belong to the Scouse ethnic group.>>
DELLA:
Really? My father was a Scouse... and my cousins are. My father was (sadly) very alert for the kind of sneering he got in the UK, from Southerners, and in NZ frem the Scots.
I was on the alert, because I well know what Scots can be like (sorry if I traduced you with any assumptions there...) My mother was a Scot, and when my parents quarrelled, it always devolved to ethnic insult, and the battle of Culloden was on again! Sigh...
The mods and we should cut Della some slack because as we can see she is:
RAMPANTLY PARANOID:
"Really?
She cant accept without questioning that someone might be from the 'pool.
Similarly she has qeustioned my ethnicity and refuses to accept that Im working class.
"My father was a Scouse... and my cousins are.
Even for a a liar and fantasist of dellas standard she has maintained fairly consistent reporting about these facts.
"My father was (sadly) very alert for the kind of sneering he got in the UK, from Southerners, and in NZ frem the Scots.
You get to feel that her insults are aimed at you but sometimes when you makes her own family sound bad you wonder just how much of her schtick is just a case of poor social skils and
"I was on the alert,
Obviously a troubled childhood.
"because I well know what Scots can be like (sorry if I traduced you with any assumptions there...)
Like I said no idea who she is running down her mother, a whole natin or parhaps both, thinks to apologise but doesnt realise it might be better not to do it at all or at the very leas to carefully rephrase.
"My mother was a Scot, and when my parents quarrelled, it always devolved to ethnic insult, and the battle of Culloden was on again! Sigh...
As they sy children learn what they see growing up.
Much as I detest what she says it has to be said I still pity her more than I could ever hate *anyone*.

I guess so, Blick, but here is a person who routinely calls people hard of thinking, morons, racists, and bullies for the crime of not following her twisted, bizarre, logic and syntax.
This is someone who has voiced contempt and hatred for virtually every identifiable minority, nationality, or ethnic group that is represented on the site.
This is someone who lies constantly, makes false accusations, belittles others and derides everything from lifestyles to intelligent debate. This is someone who has accused another researcher of pederasty BECAUSE OF THE COUNTRY HE LIVES IN!!!!
I feel she is to be despised more than pitied. The moment she apologises for her behaviour (overall, not just an individual, qualified apology for a specific outrage), I'll be able to consider pity as an alternative reaction.
Before this gets Yikesed let me assure any reader that this doesn't apply to a particular individual but to ANYONE who fits the above profile. If the shoe fits, Yikes away.

A question for my esteemed fellow rationalists.
What evidence do you have that continuing to interact with the flightless bird female, whether in the first or third person brings about any desirable change in the behaviour?
Many of us say how much we value 'evidence' over blind faith. Well it seems to me the only reason that people interact with the bird is that they have 'faith' it will change. But there is as sure as hell no evidence that I can see. In fact what I've seen lately is the more the bird is acknowledged in any way shape or form, including referring to it as a 'troll', the more irrational, uncivilised and ultimately boring and downright diabolical its behaviour becomes. Now I know technically I'm doing the very thing that makes the behaviour worse by referring to its existance. But this is a thread on my ps and not a post on the dreary dawkins thread. So it seems preferable to speak about it here.
So blicky and dos, to paraphrase the great Kevin Keegan, 'I'd loove it, I'd really loove it', if you could give me your evidence for continuing to pay undue respect to the bird by acknowledging its existance at all.
Needless to say I will do my best from now on to behave in such a way based on the evidence I see, until and if the evidence begins to show a different result.

You're right, of course, Effers.
Ultimately it comes down to a habit of treating others as though they ought to be part of the human race. I keep forgeting that this particular flightless bird is not -- to all intents and purposes of a web discussion.
I shall do my best to dismiss her ravings for what they are...the ravings of a frustrated troll.

Yes I too think sending to coventry is the horriblest thing you could do to someone. I hate it. But I've got to the stage now that I don't see any alternative. And I do believe people choose to behave in such a way. I find it so depressing now because I used to love that thread, and feel I've learnt so much from other excellent researchers there; many who have now left. I know it's not easy; I often get drawn in.
Such behaviour is a *deliberate* choice I'm sure.
I'm feeling utterly bored by it all.
It's up to me to leave the thread I suppose if it carries on and really can't stand it anymore...

Actually, Eff, I think that it's up to you and the rest of us NOT to leave. I think we have a duty to maintain a discussion that bears real fruit. I think we are responsible for maintaining the integrity of that and other threads that address real issues in a civilised and mature way.
We're dealing with a troll. That troll was sent to Coventry before and the conversation was fine as long as everyone ignored it. We eventually acknowledged its presence again and it deteriorated again. I suggest that we maintain our integrity by continuing to participate on the thread and maintain our dignity by ignoring - permanently - any input from the troll, no matter how deceptively placating. We might even make a habit of warning new participants of the presence of that toxic creature and our Coventry policy should they unknowingly engage it.
An alternative, less palatable, course of action might be a grass roots movement to Yikes EVERYTHING it posts and demand the revocation of its membership on each and every occasion.
But since a troll lives for destroying what it touches, I wouldn't advocate giving up on a conversation.
Hang in there and ignore the bleatings! The thread would be less vital and of far lower quality without your input.

This is something that many of us have discussed...as she is supposedly in New Zealand it can't be what she is giving the mods.
We have no sensible sane reason for why she has not been thrown off the site.
One reason could be that we do not yikes her posts to try and build up a blog of her comments. The problem is the yiksed comments normally get put back up.
The only thing that can be done is ignore the troll and hope that she gets bored. If she carries on posting with NO feedback from anyone then there really is something wrong with her.

That's what I am suggesting, triple D.
I even suggest we warn new posters who get lured into a conversation with it.
The Big Durian
Alfster Posted Jan 24, 2008
That would be considered victimisation and would a) allow her to bleat even more about people treating her badly and b) probably get you banned for a bit!
The Big Durian
U10890910 - banned Posted Jan 24, 2008
Then at least this time it would actually have something about which to bleat!
But you're probably right. Let's just treat it with the respect it deserves. None. Let's disregard it.

I don't agree. Yes there is still some good stuff on that thread and others. But so much is now so regularly corrupted that I feel no duty whatsoever to the discussion. Some people will clearly continue to communicate with...They are fully entitled to of course. But to me it's now become pointless because over and over interesting discussion keeps getting snuffed out and derailed. I don't have the patience for continually pointlessly banging my head against a brick wall. I will just get really angry again, and probably jumped on again by Dogster. And I want no more of that. The only reason I might continue is to have a bit of fun playing around with..... But like it's been pointed out regualrly, 'how much fun can someone keep on having, shooting at fish in a barrel.' So I may come back for a bit of that now and then. As for proper meaningful debate, my intelligence tells me that is impossible with... around.
I may change my mind of course. But that's how I feel right now.

Eff:
You could well be right. I just posted something to Edward on the Dawkins site in which I explained that I had been concerned that priests were being unfairly maligned as child molestors. I said that the data were murky but that there might indeed be a slight statistical predisposition among clergymen to towards criminal sexual perversion.
The troll was back on line with a rant about me calling all priests child molestors etc. etc. (And this coming from someone who accused me of pederasty because I live in Indonesia!)
Anyway, the troll was clearly trying to provoke a response. The conversation will no doubt grind to a halt again or wander down troll alley until someone brings it back to the subject.
I'm nearly ready to give up.

Hi, Effers!
I'm new here and thought I'd introduce my self!
Did you know that jalan terus means "walk straight" in Indonesian?

Effers;England. Posted Jan 26, 2008
Pleased to meet yer, you utterly straight walking, completely normal Indonesian personage, with something of the Canadian about you, Jal.
Don't be nervous about this hootoo place.
Just so long as you have no fears of madness or psychosis, you'll be fine.
Let the weirdness continue..

Hey Jal, hope I haven't dropped you in it and you get shut down again. I made a joke on your ace's hi message. It was meant in good fun. But I've suddenly thought it might mean you have to change your socks yet again.
I do find this whole situation quite inexplicable and bizarre.
